If it's the tweet that triggered some posters which it seems it is, the guy is just a fan. I think it was over reaction as well but since the Reign were down 2-0 and tied it with Vilardi-Fagemo scoring in the 3rd then Byfield closes it out in OT, he probably got a little pumped.

My first thought on the goal...nice his ankle looks fully healed :)

Any other prospect would get a 'welcome back, kid' for his first games coming off injury and illness but Byfield gets a page of 'yawn, he's D+2, should be leading the NHL in scoring, I'm not impressed' with no context.

Which is extra crazy because fewer than 20 players from the 2020 draft have even set foot on NHL ice, and Byfield was considered a long-term project. The guy's coming back from a broken ankle and COVID. I was tempted to say "let's give him a break", but that's actually bullshit; he's playing great and whatever weird criticisms he's facing regarding his play this season are absurd.

The only guy younger than him in the NHL right now is Cole Sillinger. The only other guys younger than him to have even played in the NHL are McTavish and Eklund. Let's pause and see how he does once he gets called back up to the Kings.

I mean Drysdale and a few others are a couple months older and been in the NHL for two seasons now as well. But if a couple months makes a big difference and you are just saying he is literally the youngest I guess so.

Q is gonna be just fine once we can get him on the ice for more than a handful of games at a time.

Glad to see him recovered and on the ice.

It's a fair point, as guys like Power, Beniers, Eklund, K Johnson, and Luke Hughes from the last draft are all only 60-90 days younger than Byfield. Sanderson is the same. Not so much a big plus over a guy like Drysdale (April), but the late 01's like Lafreniere. Lundell and Rossi definitely had a bit of an advantage of age in their draft year.

That's great for Drysdale. He's a great player. What does that have to do with Byfield? Both got called up to the NHL last year. Byfield would have started the season with the Kings if he hadn't broken his ankle in preseason.

Did you just want a pat on the back for Drysdale or was there a point to make here?

I realize that he's a fan. It's fans getting a little carried away like that that I was commenting on, and I wasn't "triggered" by it any more than you were by me. I agree, though, that it's good to see Byfield moving like that on the ankle that he recently injured, and if the tweeter had made a comment about that, instead, I wouldn't have had any objection. :)

No you said something and I responded, you know its a discussion board that's the point of this place. I mentioned Drysdale because it was relevant to what you said and he's a Duck and I'm a Ducks fan so I know his age and status. There are other examples out there. Relax dude, go for a walk or something.

Byfield and all the other 20' draftees have the play in the AHL instead of Juniors option , can't compare them to previous draft classes , where it was learn in the NHL or go back to Juniors and get more playing time against weaker competition.

Drysdale is great, I wish he was on the Kings, he's a great player. I just don't know what point you were trying to make in bringing him up. He too is a very young player. If he wasn't performing well in the NHL, I wouldn't be labeling him a bust, and if he hadn't played this season because of an injury, then all the more reason not to label him a bust.

My point about Byfield is that he made the team out of camp and then broke his leg. That's the only reason he hasn't played in the NHL this season. He's literally on a conditioning stint in Ontario — a conditioning stint that he had to pause because he caught COVID.

One dude's tweet caption apparently was enough to set off a chain reaction of complaints entirely unrelated to Byfield.

He should be banned from Twitter. It' an Osprey world and we are just living in it.

Guy is a bust. He should have at least 25 goals this season in the NHL but is still in the A. Waste of a pick. Matthews had 4 NHL goals in his first ever game and Byfield can’t score in the A.

This is what passes for 'discussion' in Kings' prospect threads in case the forum at-large wonders why we don't bother to update frequently.

Done here.

He's 19...and he "should have at least 25 goals this season in the NHL" ?!?
The guy taken before him has 19 goals, total, over 2 seasons.
The guys taken 1st and 2nd overall the year before have 26, and 24 goals, respectively, over 3 seasons.
The guys taken 1st and 2nd overall the year before that (2018) have yet to score 25 goals in a season.
The guys taken 1st and 2nd overall the year before that (2017) have yet to score 25 in a season.

He's going to need to produce more than one goal in 6 games (OT), to be considered a futur "problem in the nhl". I was a fan of him at the draft, lets hope he turn it around, still young.

How many minutes have you watched him play this year?

You couldn’t see the sarcastic tone to that? I was parodying the people on here who claim every player is a bust if they’re not a legit superstar in their d+1 year

I was being sarcastic. 25 goals this season is what I said and that would put him among league leaders.

I thought it was understood Byfield was a bit of a project when drafted with a ton of potential but who probably wasn’t ready to be a top 6 nhl guy for a few years. When drafted, I understood that to be the consensus

Fair, sorry, I couldn't see it because you did it too well  and unfortunately as you can see too many people see it that way despite him literally not playing this year until now...

Byfield had a good professional first year. Due to covid he was able to play in the AHL.

Where are the concerns actually. He is developing nicely. One year after being drafted.

People can call out others who cant cope with criticism about Byfield but is that criticism even fair and correct.

1 point in 6 AHL games. I don’t claim to have watched him this year, but it’s not great production for a d+2 players. I’ve always been lower on him than most, but I’ll never root against a player. I hope he can turn it around. He can be a real nice player for the Kings with some nice development
