C Oleksii Myklukha - Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, QMJHL (2021 Draft)

he had 5 secondary assists. calm down

He's a top prospect playing in a lesser league and his home country may not have a junior league that fits him. Of course he should be considered for the 1st pick in the CHL import draft.

The problem here is that the CHL import draft isn't based just on skill but rather if the player has already agreed to play for the team. If Myklukha says that he'll only play for Halifax then they have a great chance of getting him in the draft. They have a knack for getting top tier Europeans across.

If he is given a chance to play with a good team and will be given first line minutes, with the situation being better than what cajkovic went to than no CHL is better option. His play style fits the smaller ice anyways. No way to Russia, he will get no good ice time. If he doesn’t choose CHL than Sweden it is.
I agree. He’s a good skater, although needs to be selfish more times. He’d fit well on a CHL team, Saint Johns? ;)

Saint Johns should trade for Oliver Okuliar. He and Cajkovic did well on the same line on WCH U18 last year. Oleksii should go to another team.

Because of his decision to represent Slovakia, hopefully he becomes nothing more than average czech extraliga player.

Same goes for Theo Rochette if true that he opted for Canada instead Swiss.
This is a dumb argument. Can prospects such as jack studnicka, Peter Stratis, Simon Mack, Kalen Szeto, Cameron Tolnai please play for Slovakia than?

He not. He already played for Canada. Only if he come play to Slovakia for 2 years. Also Kevin Labanc.
Me and @Rusty7550 know that. But previous user was implying that players should play for their ethnicity. So myklukha should play for Ukraine not Slovakia since his ethnicity is Ukrainian. Than I listed players who have ethnic Slovak background and play for other nations so why can’t oleksii. In fact I think Ireland would have a pretty loaded team if we went by ethnicity (Crosby, McDavid, Mackinnon).

I don't understand why it's such a big deal when Oleksii himself personally declared to play for Slovakia

Can you really not tell the difference between some 4th generation Canadians and the guy who wasn't even born in the country he is going to represent?

Having those players Slovakia could be competitive against top5 nations in few years :)

A few C grade prospects would make Slovakia competitive with top 5 nations? Are you high?

OK, then what about Stan Mikita or Peter Stastny, who were born in Slovakia (or Czechoslovakia in that time..) but played for Canada? This is the same case ;)

Well Mikita was an entirely different circumstance, he has hardly had a real choice. Regarding Stastny, yeah I don't like his decision just as well. Just because you can probably find countless examples of it doesn't make it good. And again, Stastny at least was born and grew up in NA. Meanwhile, Myklukha has chosen to represent the country which is stone-throw away from his original one simply because the former is better at hockey, as simple as. He has the right to do so, I have the right to not like it.

No one has a problem with Bondra although he too was born in Ukraine and got his Slovak citizenship only as an adult living in the United States.

Ok, I accept your opinion, but according to the Oleksii's own words he would have no chance becoming a hockey player when he would stay in Ukraine. So I would say he wants to pay something back to Slovakia and also help himself;)
When talking about Stastny I meant Peter Stastny, not his son Paul Stastny ;)

Who cares about generation, it’s all about ethnicity. Myklukha wasn’t even born in Ukraine for one thing, his parents are working immigrants there.

That's actually not true - his family left Ukraine with hope to get other citizenship because of the war with Russia to prevend the loss of their son in case of a mobilization ;)

As far as I know his father was Rusyn, mother Polish yes.
So u want bondra to play for the non existent state of ruthenia ? Rusyns in Ukraine consider themselves to be ukrainia, rusyns in Slovakia consider themselves to be Slovak. How about no sorbians germany? Or no Suomi ever play for finland?

I'd be fine if Bondra had chosen to play for Team USA, that's his business. Nedvěd and Šťastný for Canada, no problem. The same goes for Myklukha, Ukrainian hockey program is garbage so it's natural that he wants to play for a better side when he has the opportunity. But those that develop problems shouldn't have double standards at least.
