Waived: [FLA] D Adam Boqvist waived by the Panthers

Fair enough, but that was a game where both our 2D and 3D were out. And this was the ice time split among defensemen.

Our PP went 0/3 btw. If you claim him, don't be optimistic. He is bad.
We have a 5'9 stay at home defenseman who doesn't hit, doesn't provide offense and gets caved in. His name is Jacob Bryson and has kept his job for 4 years.
Then We wonder why we can't make the playoffs. I will take anyone right now.

He's got some scary bad defensive metrics on one of the better 2-way teams in the league. Might want to think that any change is good but that guy is not it.
The Panthers have actually been pretty mediocre defensively.. 15th in GA and 16th in PK% atm, but at one point I believe we were around the 20 area for both categories at some point.

Adam wasn't good. But he also never played more than 9 consecutive games with the club them was in and out of the lineup. Kinda hard to settle in like that considering the missed time last year + adapting to a new team.

I would have preferred to ice him for a bit longer before possibly waiving him.. I mean, freaking Balinskis has played 40+ games and isn't much better, at least Adam still has untapped potential.

Then again, I'm not working for a SC champion team so..

This guy is not NHL calibre. It would have been figured out long ago but his draft pedigree keeps him in these positions.

His offensive game hasn’t translated and he’s small, soft and not particularly fast. He’s an AHL first pairing guy who will be on Europe soon unfortunately.

Had some decent outings early in the season but just can’t find any consistency in the NHL. There’s still enough offense where maybe a team takes a chance but he’s pushed off the puck regularly. So what are you really getting but someone to staple to your own press box?? He’s going to be 25.

Spoiler alert...hes not way better defensively
Yes he is. Dahlin is good to great defensively. Hughes is all right but not good. He is a bit similar to Erik Karlsson in this regard. He is too small and frail to be effective.

Dahlin:
Offense: 8.5/10
Defence: 7.5/10

Hughes:
Offense: 9.5/10
Defence: 6.5/10

(Peak Karlsson for reference):
Offense: 10/10
Defence: 5.5/10

I don't see the Canucks picking him up seeing how Brannstrom went but I would say it's worth a shot if it doesn't work they can just waive him to Abby and strengthen their already solid AHL D core.

Seems a guy who might benefit from a change too forward. I know we usually only see this with 4th liners and bottom of the depth chart defenseman making the switch. There was Brent Burns who excelled at both. Boqvist an offensive minded right shot. Struggles more defensively and thus cut ice time and opportunity. Mitigate that by trying him as a forward and it's the potential for an offensive right shot tweener for a waiver claim.

Why? The Canucks are already overloaded with D-men in Abbotsford and healthy scratching good young prospects because of it. They need to keep development spots open for those players, not crowd them out for a 25 y/o guy with no NHL future.

vancouver picks him up and waives desharnais/juulssen.
