not really saying much.

reporter: lots of things changed in your life since you were drafted, what was the craziest thing that happened since then?

hisch: yes that is true, lots of things to do in such a short time. craziest thing was a video message from roger federer.

re: bolded

Holy smokes, that had to be so cool for him.

Is it obvious yet whether he is going to start the season with Devils?

I think the Devil's GM said he will be given every opportunity to make the team out of camp. Considering Zajac's injury it would probably take a disasterous training camp for him not to be in the opening night roster.

He will 100% be on opening night roster, that's a given. Hell, they ****ing moved the start of the game so it will be primetime in Switzerland. There would be little reason not to give him at least that game even if he's not NHL ready..

Whether he will stick on roster after the 9 games is maybe a little more in doubt but he's still almost certainly going to be in the NHL all season.

That's awesome!!

For anyone that has seen him play thus far, how has he looked?

He's only played in the prospects tournament games so far. I only caught the first game but he got better as the game progressed. Started to create more and more chances using his speed and hands. Tonight is really his first time against NHL competition, sort of, so we'll see how he does. He'll be centering Quenneville and Hayes to start out, I think he and JQ could have some good chemistry down the line.

Very excited to see how he does tonight!

Kid is gonna be a good one. Flashed the dynamic quality scouts were talking about with that goal, along with great defensive awareness/hockey sense in his first game.

Silky smooth finish, what a goal!

Thought he had a decent game besides the goal. Looked strong defensively but wasn't involved too much offensively. Was terrible on faceoffs but that could have been predicted. Played with Hall and Palmieri for two shifts in the third but then the penalty train started up again.

His line mates were really bad tonight, especially Hayes.

Look forward to seeing him with more competent line mates.

I think people expecting a burner who blows up the ice every shift are going to be disappointed. Hischier plays a very methodical, lurking kind of game, kind of like an Alexander Barkov. But he absolutely has flash in there, too.

He played a very responsible game.

Any doubts I had about him making the team and being able to handle it are evaporating very quickly.

He can absolutely burn but he goes just as fast as he needs to at that particular time.

No surprise there. Jimmy was horrible for the whole 16-17 season with us.

Nico idolizes Datsyuk and my guess is that that's who he wants to model his game after. Not bad, if you ask me.

What kind of a player do you think Nico would best fit with?
Personally I think palms. He's got the shot and Nico has the vision and playmaking ability to find him in those sweet spots
I think the Hayes experiment is over

Steve Kournianos (TheDraftAnalyst) described his game akin to a snake in the grass waiting to strike

Yes, but in the event of a water landing they inflate and serve as flotation devices.;)

All our kids will need flotation devices too for when we inevitably throw them into the deep end this season
