by far? Might not even be the best junior team ever from the Q

You might have to read the quote again...

Can we move on from arguing about CHL teams please? Mackinnon was part of a excellent team which was also excellent because of him.
He wouldn't have won anything with Halifax '17 though, so the comparison is useless.

Nico now on the ice for some 3-on-3 scrimmages at NJD Dev. Camp!

whoops! agree tho that the comparison isn't very good.

That Mem cup Moosehead club was the best Q-league team I have personally watched in over 20 years watching that league. That includes Crosby's team. They may even be the best Junior team over the last 20 years too (at least top3).

2015/16 London nights hands down

That was the third of fourth game. He was GASSED. I think prior to camp, he'd only been on the ice five times.

Yea you could see some heavy legs out there for all participants. But the skill and creativity of Hischier was noticeable - you could also see him winning races if he decided to.

I feel like he and Hall have the potential to be one of the fastest scoring duos in the league. Could be a nightmare off the rush.

We could have one of the fastest forward groups around if things pan out in the next few years.

Hall
Hischier
McLeod
Wood
Zacha
Boqvist
Palmieri
Blandisi

That's some serious speed. Just wish we had a bit more patience / offensive IQ in the mix. Hischier helps but we're still missing the type of guy who can slow the game down and set up plays IMO. But maybe if everybody is fast, you don't need that.

I know you'll disagree with this, but Hall can slow the game down and find guys in the offensive zone. He's one of the best passers in the league.

I agree, I'd like another playmaker or two in the fold, but in the last 3 drafts, they got three pieces in the first round who will help in zone exits and entries. Zacha showed the ability to gain the zone with possession. McLeod was the best in the OHL at this, per Zac Urback. Of course, Nico will be able to slice and dice in the neutral zone. Lord knows that other than Severson, we dont have a dman who can break a defense down with a pass, so the onus will be on the forwards to do this. I think in the next year or two, you'll see the dump and chase essentially dead in NJ.

As an aside, Jeff Marek said on radio that Dallas was trying to move up to #1 and Nico was their guy.

Hall is a tremendous passer a) on odd man rushes and b) pulling up off the rush to find the late man. Very rarely does a Hall led rush not result in an immediate shot attempt - and the fact that he's such a great north south puck carrier means that happens a lot.

But after about the first 5 seconds of gaining the zone, he's pretty average (making plays off the cycle, stationary passing, high slot rotation etc). He's more or less a one and done type playmaker, which is why his 5v5 SF/60 relative to league average is so high along the wing but relatively lower in between the hash marks and in front of the net.

But overall I agree with your comments. We've got loads of great north south puck carriers + Hischier who is a bit of both. A patient half zone playmaker would be an excellent fit to really make the offense click.

We'll see.

I like Travis Zajac and Kyle Palmieri, but neither of them oozes high offensive IQ. Zacha and Hischier have much better creativity than either and I'd be curious to see how he'd to if paired with either on a consistent basis. But, this thread is about Nico.

Great scrimmage today statistically, couldn't actually watch it. Saw videos of both his goals though and I can't wait for October. Depending on what he does the rest of this summer I think his impact next year will he a lot greater than some people think

Just wanted to say that Nico was one of my favorites that I've watched in the past 15 years from the Q. Hischier's motor never stopped, he was always in the right spot and was a scoring threat on nearly every shift. Good on the boards, shifty, etc.

Does Switzerland participate in the WJC showcase in August? If so will Nico be playing? Want to watch as much of this guy as I can to hold me over till I get to see him on the Devils every night
