How many shots in the 4 games w/o Nylander? If he's getting his shots and they're not going in, it's not a big deal

He hasn't been as dangerous without Nylander. He made some passes yesterday where I would say Nylander would most likely converted. But overall I found his game rather quiet.

4 games, -5 for a player of his draft stock without a single point is pretty noteworthy for prospects followers.

I think he is a good prospect, but IMO he is rated ambitiously at #5 or even top 10 at the moment. Given that Nylander and Laine are rated lower than him presently.

I still think he'll go top 10. I doubt most scouts are as reactionary as people on this board.

Agreed. It's not just about how good he is now, but how good he can get with added weight and with a mature offensive game. Scouts just love Cs with that size, overall package and skating ability

I don't think he'll go top 10 for sure but top 12 I'd say for sure.

Top 12 is a lock but I still think there's a good chance he goes in that 5-7 range.

In that 10-12 range for me.

Obvious 5 are better than him (Matthews, Finns, Chychrun, Tkachuk) and I also see Gauhtier, Nylander, Luc-Dubois and Juolevi ahead of him.

Not really enough sample size to react to his lower production without Nylander.

The sample size is small, but questions about his offensive upside were real before the wjc. This re-enforces the narrative. I have him 11-15. His upside is too questionable to go above the top ten. But, his skill package is too enticing to go below 15.

IMO he's one of those guys that shouldn't go in the top10 but most likely will. NHL teams just like these "safe" guys and McLeod is just that with his speed, size and straight-forward game. Doesn't hurt that he's a good ole canadian boy from a hockey family either. I like him but I find him quite overrated. McKeen's have him #2 and ISS #5, both those rankings are just insane. You could make a case for him after the top7 but not earlier than that. I have him at #11 right now and I'm very comfortable with that.

I feel if a team takes McLeod over Dubois, they will regret it.

A lot of teams will regret passing on Dubois.

As for tiers I see it

1-Matthews
2-Chychrun, Laine, Puljujarvi, Dubois
3-Gauthier, Nylander, Tkachuk, Mcleod, Juolevi, Sergachyov

Mcleod definitely has a good chance of going top 10 but there is a chance he just falls out like Crouse last year.

Not a big fan of this prospect. Especially seeing him play without Nylander. I believe his skill set and type of player come around every draft. He isn't In my top 10.

i still see Tkachuk as a top 5. kids solid gritty highly skilled potential top winger, he`d fit right in with the rest of them dirty Canucks. seriously no joke, anyone who decides to do something stupid like take a Nylander or Dubois over Tkachuk will also be regretting.

Finally gets his first points without Nylander in his 5th game. 1+1 tonight on the PP. But line had a tough night. -4 on the night.

whois the centreman on his line? both players Him and Nylander are listed and centers.

McLeod with a shorthanded goal late in the third period to tie the game vs Ottawa. Showed some nifty mitts on the breakaway

The play before he got completely crushed. A teammate came in and go the instigator which was the cause for the Steelheads being shorthanded.

He showed great resiliency in getting back into the game and scoring the goal.

My takeaways from the game:

1) Exceptional speed and is always hounding the puck.
2) His speed gets him into trouble at times as he got rocked atleast 3 times. Going forward into the NHL he will need to learn how to his spots.
3) He has the ability to slow the game down and make a play.

He isn't as naturally gifted as Nylander but I can see him being picked before him do to his position and he tenacity. To me, he and Nylander are top 10 picks but not top 5.

Kind of sounds like a description of Ryan Kesler, does McLeod play like Kesler?

I don't think he's as aggressive or have those agitating skill atleast based on the one game I saw.

If I had to compare styles (not potential): I saw Nathan MacKinnon at the same age when he played Gatineau. Again, only one game live (of course saw a few Moose games on TV) but they played a similar game in the sense that they have dynamic speed and hound the puck. Although MacKinnon was at the same age stronger on his edges and was able to absorb contact better.

I'm a believer that McLeod has the potential to be that type of player that all winning teams have in their core but isn't the flashiest or perhaps the most offensively gifted but he get the job done when you need him.

You mean an elite third line center?

I maintain what I have said about him from my first post on him this thread. I want to see progress from him in the 2nd half of the OHL season.

My main criticism for him as a prospect being rated #7 right now on ISS is I do not think he has the offensive acumen to be rated in there with Nylander or Laine up until the latest rankings Mcleod was rated higher.

I do not see offence coming easy to Michael. Never had a problem with his effort, getting dirty, skating.

But if you are being picked as a top 10 pick. I think one has to pick the most likely top 3 or 6 player as possible.

Mcleod to me will be a sure #3C in the NHL. Does he have the offence to be a #1C? Perhaps his upside is a a good #2C, safe #3C. But the question is do you use a top 10 pick on a safe pick? Or do you shoot higher?

As always, I am willing to see how he develops as the season goes on. Prospect improvement is not out of the question with so many games left.

You mean an elite third line center?

Not at all.

I think he has a similar impact to a winning that team that Sharp had the Hawks or Toffoli on the Kings. Maybe not the #1 guy or the # 2 guy but a very good player.

Is it just me or do other people see a lot of Duchene in this kid? Basically looked like a right handed version of Duchene. Apparently his favorite players Duchene as well lol

They do have similarities but he doesn't have Duchene's hands and ability to make plays at high speed. He's bigger and has more two-way potential though IMO. They certainly look similar when skating though.

I wouldn't dare select him in the top 15.

If a team does, they'll regret it, there definitely is not enough offense there.

Depends who is there; can see the Leafs taking him in the 7-10 range - Over guys like Dubois, Keller, Sergachyov, Gauthier.

I would assume our chart is as follow:

1.Matthews
2.Chychrun
3.Laine
3.Puljujarvi
3.Tkachuk
6. Nylander
7. McLeod

Not me

1.Matthews
2.Laine
3.Puljujarvi
4.Tkachuk
5. Dubois
6. Nylander
7. McLeod
8. Sergachyov
9. Juolevi
10. Gauthier
11. Chychrun
