C Mason McTavish - Peterborough Petes, OHL (2021, 3rd, ANA)

I like the Pavelski comparison in terms of career wise. Think he could end up putting similar numbers.

Ultimately I think hes something around a 1B center (15-32 ranked center in the league)/elite 2C throughout his career that can play on both special teams with wing flexibility.

He compliments Zegras well, each others weaknesses are their strengths so it will be fun to watch them on the PP together and I'm sure at times on the same line. Wish the ducks didn't often play so late for EST times because I'd love to watch more of him and Zegras. (got them both in my keeper league and enjoy them as players).
Mctavish shot with zegras vision and passing will be great….

And mctavish also has understated play making, to go with zegras underrated shooting

I think pelveski comp is pretty good…. Still tough to predict tho

Took a nasty hit tonight in overtime where he had to leave the game. Was reminiscent of the Zdeno Chara hit on Max Pacioretty.

Clean hit, but McTavish wasn’t expecting it and went head first into corner where the benches meet the stands. Can’t find a clip unfortunately but looked like it could have been a concussion.

He'll make the Ducks next season I assume?
It's the good old CHL-NHL transfer agreement that pretty much rules out anything else except maybe Swiss leagues. Ideally he'd be in San Diego with the Gulls.

McTavish will probably make the Ducks if management gives him the opportunity, but I don't necessarily think it's the best thing for his development.

EDIT: As pointed out below, Hamilton would have to agree for him to go to the Swiss leagues, so not a chance in hell.

Completely agree.

The kid is going to be a monster next year. He just looked so overwhelmingly good in Hamilton. Like, he probably could have been the lights out scoring leader this season if he absolutely wanted it.
I have no doubt Mason will make the Ducks next year, he's already an NHL player.

As as Hamiltonian, it's great to see him play in person. He's a dominant player all around: smart, strong, fast, skilled, tough, plays both ends. I don't know if they'll be able to come back against a strong Windsor team, playing without their top D pairing (Staios - OHL Dman of the Year - and Kammerer - their Captain). It's frustrating knowing how much better they could be with those two in the lineup, and it's up to Mason and Logan Morrison to get it done. Let's Go Bulldogs!

I don't think he'll be able to play in Switzerland. From what I understand, Hamilton would have to agree and I don't know why they would.

I'm a bit fuzzy on all of the restrictions, so I wasn't sure if European leagues were some kind of exception.

Well, Hamilton had better cross their fingers and hope the Ducks don't call him up!

Yeah Hamilton holds his rights. I don't get this "just play over seas" argument that I see get thrown around here so often... It's not that simple. People said the same for laf. But their CHL teams hold their rights and have the final say as to where they can play (unless its the NHL of course). And no CHL team is going to agree to ship their guy off to Europe for a year if their league is playing.

If I'm a ref, I'm not counting this. Just too filthy... :sarcasm:

Been watching this series. McTavish could become an incredible player. But he’s going to need to commit to being super fit. If he does that, then watch out. If he doesn’t make that commitment, then ?

He's a hard worker for all we know so not really worried about that. But there are still some areas in his game I would like to see improved (he can give bad passes some time, can float around a bit too much for my liking, etc). He seems raw to me still, which is why I'm not all super excited for him playing in the NHL next year (AHL would be ideal, IMO).

At this point it’s exceedingly difficult to see him not become at least a defensively responsible and physically punishing 30 + 25 scorer, without needing elite linemates around him to reach those numbers.

MacTavish will be an NHL beast, if he commits to diet, and fitness. His skills, size, and compete are excellent. He’s super smart too.
