I would use Zetterberg as a comparable rather than Johansson/Backlund.

When it comes to skills Lias has the complete package and he can dangle like the devil. Scored some really insane goals.

But he is defensively responsible and played a shut down role on the championship winning team.
He's a really intelligent player, if Frölunda puts him in a different role next year you'll get to see a lot more of his skills.

I'm happy with this pick honestly. I'm not sure why people were expecting a 1C at 7 in what many consider a 'weak' draft. I'd have preferred Glass but he was gone so next best guy imo.

Welcome addition to the NYR

As a Rangers fan Im glad I found this thread because our board has him as a bust already and from what Im reading here he sounds like a very solid pick...He was mocked in the 11 to 15 range and they are acting like they went completely off the board...Welcome Lias

At first, I didn't like this pick, but I have come to my senses, its a fine pick.

I had this kid top 20 in every rankings I did this season, besides one, and he was still a first rounder in that other one. I said a month or two ago that I wouldn't want my team to pick him, although I think he's a good player, but I now disagree with my earlier opinion.

You know what you are going to get. He'll be a good NHL'er, consistent player, dependable in a number of areas.

This is a great pick. He has the skill and pedigree to be a top 6 forward in the NHL and the versatility and IQ to contribute in a bottom 6 role at worst. Give him 2-3 years and you have yourself a player!

Higher than I expected, but he's a player. Proved this year he could play against men, and that he wasn't just dominating kids due to having great size/strength already. He was a guy I would have loved at 17 (knew it was an outside shot). The only guy I had notably above him who Rangers passed on was Vilardi.

Has potential to be a Alex Steen type player, which is a good goal scoring and versatile player.

I've heard people say he's slow as **** and I've heard people say he's Hagelin-fast.

Can somebody who's watched him settle this?

He's somewhere in the middle. He's closer to slow than he is to Hagelin.

This is an underrated pick though. Good job, Gorton.

He played with Tedenby and Sandberg - both those guys would be between really good/great skaters at the NHL-level and burn defenders with both acceleration and speed - so compared to his linemates Andersson would look slow.

Lias is good when it comes to lateral movements, twists and turns. But average when it comes to top speed. Doesn't remind me of Hagelin at all. Maybe Bäckström is a better comparable when it comes to skating?

Yeah, figured it's somewhere in the middle.

Thanks.

Yea it's a safe pick for a productive winger. Rangers fans will be extremely disappointed if they think he's going to be a C for them..Of course I could be wrong but I don't see a C, but a safe Winger similarly to Vilardi, though not as good

Tbh to many jump on the "3C potential" train. I think he has more upside than you think. He showed in the playoffs that he both have grit and flair to drive the bus for you. Kind of like what Marchand does for boston

Can you stop your little charade? I didn't venture into the Hischier thread, and start fights with Devils fans. You evidently want a fight, but thats not gonna happen. I have no need to bother Devils fans about their pick. Good luck to Hischier, I wish him well.

You got upset when you encountered my opinion on Hischier and Patrick, two potential Devils picks, an opinion I had months in advance to the Devils potentially picking 1st, its your problem that you saw my opinion late. No reason to take it out on this kid though.
I'm not trying to pick a fight at all. Fans rationalize picks all the time after they're made. You yourself had him ranked 19 mere days ago. I'm not saying he isn't a very good prospect, but he was certainly a reach.

He was ranked #13 by Bob. Going #7 isn't really a reach. He's a legit top10 prospect in this draft. I would've taken Vilardi over him, but Rangers value speed from what I can tell, so that probably made Vilardi a non-starter from the get-go. Mittelstadt would've been a higher upside pick than Andersson, but I don't blame them for liking Andersson over him. Just real easy player to like when you watch him play and he projects very well as an NHL player. I wouldn't be surprised if he made the NHL out of camp and put up ~30 points in a 3rd line role. Probably better for him to stay another year in Sweden though and take the NHL by storm the year after.

Was one of my favourite picks for the Leafs if he dropped.

He seems like a solid two-way guy when he plays, then all of a sudden he dangles the entire team and scores a beautiful goal - so much skill and he knows when to use it. Just so solid all around, I just don't know if he has that "top-line" ceiling though that someone like Mittelstadt or Vilardi have..

One of the reasons the Rangers moved Stepan in addition to the NTC kicking in at the end of this week was that he had lost a step. There was no way they were going to pick a C with speed issues from the get go.

DraftBuzz ranked #7. Exact match on a player I took criticism for liking more than consensus. Further along than Sebastian Aho at the same point, I think he can play in the NHL immediately.

"Lost a step" is being very kind.

He's one of the worst skaters in the league.

Not a road the Rangers wanted to potentially go down again.

Had they picked him ahead of Glass/Petterson I would absolutely agree, but I saw a lot of uncertainty with the picks that immediately followed. Plus, the NBCSN breakdown last night was underwhelming. Comparing him to Jesper Fast:amazed:...similar relentless work ethic but the stats at this point in their careers are not remotely comparable.

I see the logic in the Alex Steen comparisons after watching some of Andersson's games. I wanted Glass bad so I was disappointed but i think this was a good pick

Going to be really interesting to see if he has 60+ points in him or if he is a Couturier type player who is strong defensively but has stopped at 40 points so far in his career.

Andersson plays a good all round game but his one elite trait is his shot. He's a sniper, incredible release that's is quick, powerful, accurate. As good as Tolvanen's IMO. That will be his calling card offensively at the next level.
