Was he really though? I recall most of the draft analysts saying he was small for his frame but they all seemed to agree he could step into the NHL right away

He was for sure thought to be NHL ready, but less ready than the others (Bedard, Fantilli, Cooley.) Not so much because of his play, more so because of the increased work load and his frame not being filled out.

I thought he was NHL ready but I don't recall that being a consensus position among scouts / analysts.

It was expected that he'd take longer and most of the discussion before the year was about whether he'd be in the SHL or AHL.

I dunno about taking longer. Carlsson was projected to be playing 1C for Orebro in the SHL. It was going to be one-and-done. At the rate Carlsson's being used is akin to playing in the SHL. When viewed through that lens, it's not bad for Carlsson.

Yet, it is bad for the Ducks as they have a part-time 1C. That's going to impose a lot of difficulties for the coaching staff and other players who are shifted or rotated around from the top-line to the 3rd line. The McTavish line is rarely altered.

Alex Killorn was on Spittin' Chiclets and said that when Carlsson got scanned after his hip injury in practice, the doctor said that he's not done growing and still has a couple of inches left in him. Killorn also spoke highly of Carlsson's skating.

Zegras and Leo have some chemistry, they've had some pretty breakouts, zone entries, etc. although they're always trying to pass the puck into the net. Terry's the one that doesn't seem to quite fit with Carlsson, oddly enough.
Leo&Zegras need a RW like Perry whom we could sign. I have at least 3 jokes I'm holding back right now, but in all honesty, that line'd have some potential, lol

I agree, I'd like to see Z-Carlsson-hard worker. Carrick may work, I believe he spent time with Z on the top line in the AHL. Need a Hyman type player I think, maybe Max Jones can find a niche doing all the dirty work and give-go specialist who never has the puck on his stick longer than two seconds before he parks his butt in front of the goalie to open up space.

Rookie year(?) Comtois would have been the perfect player. Too bad he regressed so bad. Him progressing to a legit top 6 player would have been massive.

Leo single handedly just put more faith and hope in this team for me after breaking a 8 game rut which I felt they didn’t deserve to lose all those games.

The fact he is still growing into his body and already beating NHL D , is amazing.

My only regret going to the game, I didn’t get a Leo jersey. Next time!

If it's true he really has another couple inches to grow, and the Ducks strength program can bulk him up a little, he's going to end up nearly Sundin sized. If he can keep his mobility as he gets bigger he's going to be an absolute monster combo of size and skill.

With Getzy teaching him how to cycle down low he’s going to be a huge problem
