The intent is not to rest him so he is rested for the end of the season. I'm not sure if people are intentionally being obtuse or have no understanding of how our bodies develop.

In order to gain or maintain muscle you need time to work out, and time to rest. NHLers lose a ton of muscle mass over the course of the year because they have no time to work out with the playing/practicing/resting the regular season requires.

Carlsson is still developing physically and should easily gain 20 lbs of muscle over the next couple years. When they sit him it isn't for him to have time to rest for the next game. It's to give him time to work out and rest to continue physically developing.

Thats why the team, the agent, and the player refer to it as a "Strength and development program".

And Carlsson has put in heavy work on the days he’s been scratched.

On those days he’ll typically have a two-hour workout before morning skate, will take part in the morning skate, and then have an additional 45 minutes of ice time with an assistant coach. He’ll typically have another workout right before the game and then watch from the press box.

“With the (NHL) schedule, you really don’t have time to work out, you can't work out and have time to recover properly,” Carlsson said. “So I’ve been able to do that, and start getting stronger.”

I'm shocked this isn't about him being too tired to play every game....

Very exciting player. Those mentioning him looking like a vet out there - he just has such a easy feel for the game no matter what part. I forget he doesn't turn 19 for a few more weeks. I'm confident he will be top 5 center in this league for a long time.

What an amazing consolation prize to losing out on their Bedard odds. CBJ having a pretty great show with their pick too. I'm honestly rooting for all of the big 3.

I know i should not but he got 3goals less then Fantilli in 20games less. He could go without a goal in 20 games and still be closer to Fantilli then i thought, goal wise.

Had a good start to the season, but hasn’t kept it going. Barely over .5PPG playing over 18 minutes per game. His face offs are putrid too.
The whole Ducks team looks checked out, Leo included. Probably add in a little bit of hesitation in his play after 3 significant injuries and a couple legit scares.

It's rather but.
Yeah it's a pointless "but"; people have different psychologies and react to adversity in different ways. Just because he plays with more hesitancy right now doesn't mean he can't recapture his lost confidence with more experience and more physical growth.

Even with his drop off in game to game production, which correlates with his injuries and correlates with the Ducks' overall production drop off, he's still in a D+1 playing at a 42 point pace on a dog ass NHL team.

If you're making relative comparisons to Bedard, then congrats, you've proven that the guy picked before Carlsson dubbed a generational prospect is better. No one expected any differently. Past that, Leo will be fine.

Edit: by way of example, look at Barkov's rookie season. Very comparable statlines for fairly comparable players. Just because Leo hasn't set the league on fire at 18-19 years old in a year where he's been adapting to North American ice doesn't mean he's f***ed or there's cause for concern.

Him playing in NHL this year is a bonus. So every point is a bonus point IMO.

Oh I have a good idea of who he actually has in mind I just prefer not to be petty if I can catch myself

Lol, you have no idea actually about it, and as I said I had in mind exactly that dude, Garl. Because he used to say so many times how great Carlsson was and how SHL was much better than KHL...
