Lets be clear we should not blame the kid for pushing all the buttons available because it is the parents/agents who are the ones running the show.

Elite players are pretty much all represented by someone by the time they are 14-15.

Obviously, the backers got what they wanted and lets hope it works out best for the kid.

Saint John is gonna be sooooo stacked. After 2-3 years of rebuild (following the Memorial Cup years with Huberdeau/Beaulieu/Galiev/Coyle/Jurco/etc) they just had a pretty good season and are set to compete for the title once again. Their current core:

F:
Noel (18), Smallman (19), Marsh (18), Highmore (19), Joseph (18), Dove-McFalls (18), Tessier (17), Veleno (15), Paré (16)

D:
Zboril (18), Chabot (18), Green (17), Bell (18)

G:
D'Orio (16)

They should be contenders for 3 years at least, possibily more. The only thing is that RIGHT NOW they do not have a starting goalie for the upcoming campaign, but I'm guessing they'll make a move at training camp. They also have a european spot open and if they can get their hands on a game-breaker in late June, they're going to be SCARY.

Realistically they could also upgrade all three of their overage spots right now, so yeah... with the right moves they'll basically be unbeatable.

They also have the QMJHL rights to Jack Eichel... Lol

Well, they do have the rights to goalie Joey Daccord. He's committed to Arizona State for 2016-2017 but I wouldn't be surprised if he broke that commitment to go to Saint John considering how good of a team they're gonna have and the fact that, as you say, they don't have a starting goalie.

Either way, SJ is gonna be scary as hell :D

Veleno is definitely in a much better spot than say McDavid was as a 15yo on Erie. If Veleno get pp time he could very well be on a unit with two 1st round NHL drafted Dman in Chabot and Zboril, along with another who could be a 1st rounder in 2016 in Green.

Should be interesting to see what type of numbers he can put up as a 15 year old. I expect more than 50.

I doubt he'll have much of an impact as a 15-year old. In fact, I'd be surprised if he did.

I think you`ll be surprised, he`s 2 weeks away from actually being eligible for this draft and Saint John (among many others) felt he was the best player eligible for this draft.

I can`t act like I`ve seen a lot of him, but I have seen a lot of Bowers who was likely the 1st pick had Veleno not been eligible. Based on what I have seen of Bowers I would expect 45-50 points next season in the Q. Veleno will be given pp time, he will be given good linemantes, and he will continue to grow and progress.

I would be surprised if he didn`t have at least some of an impact offensively.

Veleno is good but not exceptional. SJ will not give him points from the bench. I hope he can live up to the hype and does not end up like Sean Day ... I have seen Joey play a lot.

Players need ice time to get better. That will be the question here. If he is protected and given carefully selected duty he would have been better off putting the big minutes in Midget AAA.

He scored 14 goals in Midget AAA last year so lets be extremely realistic with expectations.

My guess is he will be shelter up until Christmas. Saint John will evaluate their rosters. They have a ton of depth up front. He will likely get bottom-6 ice time with a bit of 2nd PP time. If he truly is an exceptional talent he will show enough with that ice time and he will work hard enough to warrant Saint John dealing away a forward to make space for him.

No reason to throw a 15 years old on your 1st line when you have this much depth. Ease him into the lineup, work with him in practice. Then let him loose once he adjusts a bit to the pace of the league.

It will be hard to judge him really because he'll never have to carry the team on his shoulder like other top picks have done before (McDavid). He'll always have some solid players to play with.

We'll "shelter" him by playing him in our bottom 6 with guys like Dove and Tessier :)

I think Veleno will have something like 30-35 points.

He doesn't really deserves his status honestly, I think he received it only because Hockey Canada were scared of losing him to the US program... but he should be a decent NHL player one day!

If they thought he'd be a "decent NHL player one day" he wouldn't have got it and would've gladly let him take the NCAA route. This kid will be a star. I feel like some are too caught up in the stats and haven't seen him enough. The kid was the best player at the Canada Winter Games against 15 year olds, was the 1st 14 year old ever invited to the Gatorade challenge and performed very well.

I agree with this. He is better than a lot of recent #1 picks in the Q a year younger and bigger already.

I think he could have a similar rookie season to what Duclair had, maybe a bit less points but still a lot more than 35.

It was quoted he weighs 160. He is tall and thin. Has the frame to put on muscle put that will be a transition for his game while he does that.

Great player. But when we talk exceptional status we think of a future #1 overall pick in the NHL. This is not what we think of with regards to him. Except for Sean Day, who will be drafted in the first round. where still to be determined, the rest were sure fire first overall picks.

If you have to debate whether they will go first overall in their draft year, they should not be considered for exceptional status.

If there was a ranking right now, he'd be 1st over Wahlstrom, McIsaac, Wise and Emilio-Peterson. And that's some pretty good competition for a draft class that hasn't even been drafted in Major Junior yet.

But, but... He was literally given exceptional status.

Ok, I disagree with you but that's fine and I'm not blaming Day but instead HC. Letting in Day, who I don't believe is or was exceptional, lowered the bar so that players like Veleno do not need to be exceptional anymore but only very good players. I don't think Veleno lowered the bar anymore than Day but that's just me.

Edit: Is it really that arguable though that Day set the bar low after players like Tavares, Ekblad and McDavid?
day=ekblad on a **** team, he will be better than ekblad in the nhl watch, if this was his first year people would be raving about him how he had 36 pts on a crap Mississauga team, and would have him up their with chychuran, he has nearly identical stats to ekblad in his first two years. Watch out next year for him he will be a top 5 dmen in the entire chl. He is one of those players that excel and get better as they get more experience. I think he goes top 5 in 2016 draft and exceeds all expectations set on him in the nhl.

Well if he can get a work ethic and suddenly get a hockey IQ, maybe. His skating is not enough anymore. There are a lot of very talented d men in the next draft. Will be interesting to see who shines next season.

I really don't like it when players do that. I know he's not the first, (Hall, Domi) and he won't be the last, but I just hate it when players do that.

It happends all the time. I think what's most disturbing with Veleno is that he had 3 different agents in the last year.

Petr Svoboda -- Pat Brisson -- Philippe Lecavalier

Lecavalier's high end prospects in the QMJHL usually choose their team.
