Jeremy Roy is a good comparison for Veleno. Excelled in Midget AAA at 14, but had to wait another year anyway.

Who has been overhyped out of LSL? The most recent high-profile/hype player out of there is Drouin and that's going pretty well so far.

Drouin and Duclair both made the NHL as teenagers. Matheson went in the first round and seems to be on track.

Only real bust I can think of is Leblanc, but that was long after LSL.

BIG TIME Hyped, total flop

Almost Alexandre Daigle level of flop

Not even close.....Daigle was taken #1 overall.

Just because someone is a 1st round pick from MTL drafted by the habs while the draft is in MTL doesn't make them the next Lafleur, which is what Daigle was supposed to be.

Ya I definitely got carried away :laugh:

Angelo Esposito would be a fair comparison

Yeah Leblanc was slated to become a decent NHLer, the thread had lots of people saying middle-six winger, and he just didn't pan out. Didn't really have a whole lot of hype around him. Esposito ran into multiple knee surgeries (along the lines of Cheechoo) which further hurt his consistency issues and never could put it all together.

Any chance he develops anywhere at the level of Drouin, what's the comparison like at the same age? What's his potential in the junior ranks for those who've seen him?

Well considering Drouin did not play Midget AAA underage and Veleno just put up nearly as many points at 14 as Drouin did at 15, while having a similar CWG performance as Drouin a year younger I would say he has the potential to be a better player than Drouin.

If Veleno played in Midget AAA next year he would surpass Drouin's 15 year old season.

There's some stat padding that went on but for the most part I agree.

annnnnnnnnd apparently a final decision on Veleno will be announced tomorrow.

This is a circus

The circus is that Hockey Canada is even considering this. The player in question is not an exceptional talent and apparently he missed the cutoff for applying for ES. Hockey Canada should not be in the business of being the recruitment arm for the CHL. If he wants to play in the States at SSM and then on to the NCAA, good for him, that's the path he should pursue.
