I don't know if he was expected to be apart of this years team. He was certainly in the running but I had him as someone just coming short of the final roster, and I saw alot of articles predicting the lineups that didn't feature Perreault on them. It seemed like Canada always put him to the side, ultimately leading to this decision.Mondial junior : Perreault compte évoluer pour les É.-U.
Looks to be switching to USA for the world juniors. I know he's been cut from a few Canadian teams last few years, but he was expected to be apart of this year's WJC team was he not?
He grew up mostly and played in Chicago it looks like so this isn't as egregious as some other dual nats, and a chance to go the same way as his younger brother I'm sure impacted.
So he gets a spot on a team even though he doesn't always try? Maybe, on some teams, but he simply isn't good enough to get away with that on Team Canada.Canada really screwed the pooch here. I know he doesn’t give his all game in and out but his talent level is something you dont give up to a rival.
At least an invite to the summer camp, show him hes being considered. So he gets a spot on a team even though he doesn't always try? Maybe, on some teams, but he simply isn't good enough to get away with that on Team Canada.
That’s an interesting point, as that rule does sound familiar and it would suggest the decision to represent the USA goes beyond simply wanting a chance to play at the WJC.Is this effective immediately or does the waiting period to join the US start now because info has a 2 year waiting period for switching counties iirc

Gotta agree with you in this caseKid's going to be a star. Could be one of the league's best goal scorers.
I know it’s the middle of summer, but I really think this kid should be getting way more talk. His shot is the thinnest of shades away from being on the level of Kaliyev’s, and he does pretty much everything else better. I struggle to see how he isn’t unanimously ranked inside the first round at this point. He’s definitely one to watch for next year, he could have a monster of an offensive season.
The interesting thing for me is that in all I have seen of him, Perreault has never come across as poor away from the puck. I’ve actually liked his forechecking, in particular. I’m not saying he’s a two-way stalwart, and it could be a case of catching his good moments, but I’ve never had an issue with his away-from-puck engagement in the way I have even with many other CHLers projected to go in the first round of this draft.
This speaks to me that his issues in that area are merely mental consistency, which is the easiest thing for an NHL coach to help a player overcome, aside from maybe improving shooting. That’s probably why I am really high on the kid, and think that he could be a draft day steal if he goes where so many lists have him - at the very end of the first round, if not well outside of it.
I see very real top-flight first-line winger potential, with some sizeable but very clear and simple obstacles to overcome to reach that. Simply value wise, that’s an extremely good get anywhere after 20 IMO, and fair anywhere between 10-20.
I thought he already had a passport and was a dual citizen? He grew up and played his minor hockey in Chicago. It sounds like he's waiting on his U.S. passport. That's the only barrier. He's not locked into Canada and meets the residency requirements.
