One of the best shots in the draft, and one of the best skaters in the CHL. If he starts using those wheels a little more consistently and a little more aggressively...there’s a high ceiling to aim for there.

Am I the only person that feels like the Ducks draft really well? Who runs their draft? That guy should be towards the top of the list for a promotion within the league.

Two great first round picks. Two of my favorite players in the first round. They always pick players I rate high.

I agree. One thing that pops into my head is their recent selection of Lundestrom, which I really questioned at the time but is looking pretty good now.

Martin Madden. He has been fantastic for years. I believe Seattle was after him, but he was given an internal promotion. Wouldn't be surprised if he takes over for Bob Murray when BM's deal runs out in a couple years.

Madden has been the head of scouting since 2008. Take a look at the Ducks drafting since then. It is forsure top 3-5, if not top in the league. Especially when it comes to defensemen.

Gardiner
Schultz
Vatanen
Fowler
Lindholm
Manson
Theodore
Peterson
Montour

All drafted from from 2008-2014. That’s 10 top 4 defensemen in 7 drafts.

I believe the rumor was Las Vegas and Seattle both wanted him for their assistant GM spot and head of scouting so Anaheim essentially made him the heir apparent to Bob.

And I also liked picks like Zegras, Thrun, Janicke, Dostal. There's a good foundation there with these picks without any of them being terribly high. Nothing to go wild about, but being able to have two foundational pieces like Zegras and Drysdale is a great start to rebuilding things, and then maybe the Ducks are able to get a top 2-3 pick one of these years to add a third piece to that mix. Then you have the proper rebuilding of a core.

In regards to Janicke, I always try to watch out for when a team drafts an older brother. What will they do when the younger brother(s) is up for the draft? Justin Janicke seems like a classic Ducks pick for 2021. A player I'm a big fan of, as well, so of course they'll pick him.

How much of his lazy defense is playing on a bad team? Sounded like the team was really bad, especially on D, and maybe that just got him dejected? He's only a teenager, losing that many games can cause him to lose interest. At least that's the hope. Getzlaf needs to start talking to this guy now.

In my viewings, he's always reminded me of Brad Marchand. Very feisty goal scorer.

Both first round picks by the Ducks were spot-on.

Yes, I agree with this. He has had games where he showed he can work hard defensively and help out. Other games he was less interested defensively...being on a horrible defensive team can be part of that. I am not at all concerned about his defensive game...I think he will improve on that with time.

The offensive tools are there for him to become a very good top-6 forward.

This is what I interpreted as well. It sounded like he just wasn't interested in competing on a bad team at times as opposed to being "lazy." Still a (slight) cause for concern, but he's still a kid and his dad was a gamer, so it's definitely not something to really worry about now. As long as he's willing to fight for the open ice, or at least can find the soft spots so Zegras can feed him passes, he should be golden. We need shooters who can shoot/snipe in traffic.

was this thought of because they are both pure shooters?

I think the comparison of Sprong & Perreault is not a good one. Sprong was always a pretty one dimensional prospect, although it was a pretty good dimension (speed & scoring ability). Perreault is a lot more toolsy of a prospect. Perreault is more physical, a much better playmaker, has at least as good a shot and was one of the best skaters in the CHL, even if he didn't always show it off.

The big question with Perreault is defense, he clearly has the tools to be a top 6 winger. Sarnia had a brutal team this year and many games they were simply overmatched and Perreault seemed to lose interest, or at least he has been characterized that way. I didn't see enough of him to make a judgement but I recommend watching the 2020 CHL Top Prospects game. He had a nice showing there amongst his elite peers in the CHL. High ceiling and low floor is the way most scouts seem to be categorizing him.

I guess we'll see. I think in the right system, he becomes a very good NHL player.
