Definitely weren't poor, given their dad's paycheques were signed by MLSE. Now, with working for uncle Eugene they probably would have grown up eating ramen.:sarcasm:
Its just the clothes and the team they were cheering for.. I feel bad for them

Wasn't hard enough on the puck defending in transition, got outmuscled a few times, his line got pinned in a few times. And he made a few dangerous moves with the puck in front of his own net. All very predictable knowing his tendencies. The team defense was atrocious in general and pretty much exactly what has frustrated most Devils fans during Hynes tenure.

Obviously Hughes made some plays and passes that only he can make. From the WC and camp, I've noticed that he's a pretty quick study. He tests the limits of what he can get away with and then adjusts the next game. So he will learn. Very curious to see what happens against Buffalo.

He needs to improve his FO skill really bad, because it's the easiest way for his line to get the puck possession, otherwise they are in troubles. Especially considering, the Devils defense isn't that good defensively.

From watching the last night's game, I thought Hughes had some good attempts in the 1st period that didn't quite work out. However, he played a lot more timid afterwards. Perhaps Hynes told him to tone it down and he got scared or something.

Hynes sucks. He switches up lines up 4-1

Getting benched in the very first match of his career is a feat unpredecented by any #1 picks in the history of the NHL. It seems clear the Devils coaching staff are not pleased with his game. We shall see if he can improve his defense or maybe take a little stint in the AHL to catch up to men's game.

Oh, look another embarrassing melodramatic ****-starter from our beloved group of friends up north.

He didn't get benched. Was out there during 3 on 3, which last time I checked is the opposite of being benched.
They trust him when time & space is a luxury, not at a premium.

He didn't get benched but after he was on the ice for the tying, fourth unanswered goal-against, he didn't get a shift in the 7 minutes to close regulation. Apropos of nothing, you don't dress Jack Hughes and then keep him on the bench for 3x3. His game is tailor-made for 3x3.

Oh you mean like every 18 year old that enters the league the coach tries to put them in situations to succeed and play veterans in more difficult situations? Laughable that anyone think this is valid criticism.

Did he have a good game? Nope, not really. It's the Jets though, about the worst possible match up in the league for him. The usual suspects rushing into this thread to make pronouncements about him is utterly pathetic.

I would not go that far but it seems clear his defensive play is very suspect, it will get better with time and experience but an AHL-stint cannot be ruled out at this point

Did the Penguins send Crosby to the AHL because he was horrid defensively? Chicago with Kane? Tampa with Stamkos? Countless examples of top picks being terrible defensively at 18.

What the heck did Hughes do to earn the bust label after one game? Genuinely curious.

Mostly just overreaction/joking but he was the worst player on the line that got dominated the most in the game. Worst Corsi on the team by a good margin. Right now he's losing nearly all the physical battles. He needs to adjust his game a bit or maybe just needs a year or two to develop his body.

Not valid criticism, yet you confirm it.
