What will Buffalo's lineup look like with Eichel next year (assuming they get him)?

I'll take a stab, maybe some Buffalo fans could help me out.

Kane - Ennis - Reinhart
Moulson - Girgensons - Eichel
Foligno - Hodgson - Gionta
Grigorenko - Mitchell - Larsson

Something like this? Man they could be good...

That top 6 is entirely too young to make any noise during the regular season. Still screams bottom five finish.

Eichel won't be on the wing.

Less then a week away before Eichel knows his destination. He's either going to Buffalo or Arizona 100% guaranteed. Either Buffalo wins the lottery and Arizona stays in 2nd or a lower team does and Buffalo falls to #2. Im sure Eichel will prefer staying in the northeast and be in the blue and gold.

as a Bruins fan, i hope not! I want him to go to ARI and revitalize that franchise! I live 30 min away from Jack and have family in North Chelmsford

That's my early take on the forward lines should the Sabres draft Eichel.

If I'm the Sabres, I keep Eichel, Girgensons, and Reinhart at center. Shift Ennis to wing, and try to shift Grigorenko there as well. Eichel has to be at center, Girgensons' defensive play is wasted at wing, and Reinhart is a blue chip #2 overall pick.

I could see the Sabres rolling with four balanced lines next season:

Moulson-Girgensons-Ennis
Kane-Eichel-Reinhart
Foligno-Grigorenko-Gionta
Hodgson-Larsson-Deslauriers

Assuming we don't sign/trade for anybody.

Out: Kaleta, Ellis, Dalpe
In: Kane, Grigorenko, Reinhart, Larsson

Toss in Pysyk, Zads, and McCabe to replace Strachan and Benoit, and you have a much better team than this season's tire fire.

There is an 80% chance that Eichel becomes a Buffalo Sabre and a 20% chance he becomes a Coyote.

He's already on the wing. He's bad at C.

Evander Kane- Jack Eichel -Zemgus Girgensons
Matt Moulson -Sam Reinhart-Tyler Ennis
Johan Larsson-Mikhail Grigorenko-Brian Gionta
Nicolas Deslauriers- X -Marcus Foligno

Trade Hodgson for whatever. Reinhart gets switched with Girgensons if not ready at 2nd line center.

I'm not sure what "ready" means in this case, but I don't see any way that Girgs isn't one of the top-2 centers this year. He has the experience and makes a nice #2 right now.

In the future, sure. Put Reinhart at #2. But for now, let's shield him a bit and put him on the wing.

I start Reinhart on the wing.

Kane - Eichel - Ennis
Moulson - Girgensons - Reinhart

can move reinhart to center when hes ready, hopefully have Fasching ready to step in to a top 6 RW spot next year and slide Girgensons down to 3C

I'm open to that. Would rather start with him playing center and see what happens. He was the number one player on the Sabres board last year and the first forward drafted. Let's see what he can do. I like Girgensons as a winger more than Reinhart. Girgensons of course can do both, I just see Reinhart as a center only.

Moulson-Eichel-Ennis
Kane-Girgensons-Reinhart (in time Girgensons and Reinhart swap)
Foligno-Larsson-Gionta <- lots of other options, like Hodgson, Grigorenko, etc

Something like that I suspect. Ennis shouldn't be back at center ever again unless it's by necessity. He's much better on the wing. Mitchell is with Montreal now (deadline trade). Girgensons will likely be a top 6 winger in time but for next season he probably stays at center to start. The first line loads up on offense. The second line has a good amount of two-way/possession potential. The third line has guys who play very hard. There are a lot of question marks due to not knowing who the coach will be, possible additions, and the general youth of the team, but this is what I'd be looking at for now.

Eichel won't be on the wing.

There are no guarantees in life. Even Crosby played some wing to start his career. I don't think Eichel will of course, but it's a fluid situation where we don't even know who the coach will be.

I don't think Girgensons/Larsson/Reinhart/Grigorenko are comparable to Mario Lemieux.
Did I compare anyone to Mario? No. Nevermind that Mario was a shell of himself at that point, so let's not just drop the name "Mario Lemieux" in there like we're talking about the best player in the world at the time. I mentioned Crosby because he's the best prospect relevant to what I said. Even Crosby played some wing to start. The idea that it's 100% Eichel wouldn't is nonsense.

Yeah but like the whole point is that Crosby would have played center if Mario Lemieux wasn't there.

Maybe, but he was already better than Mario just like Eichel is likely already better than any of the Sabres forwards. If I listed every top center who broke in at wing people could break down how each situation differed in some way from what we know of the 2015-2016 Sabres and they'd be missing the point, which is that, in addition to many top-end center prospects, even the best prospect of the past 20 years played wing. I don't care about the circumstances because if we listed 20 players that played wing we'd be looking at 20 different circumstances. Anything's possible, even if it's very unlikely Eichel wouldn't start at center, which are the two points I was making. If Eichel were moved to wing so Ennis could play center I'd pull my hair out, though.

I don't see why that would happen. Did Ennis even play any center this past year? I can see Eichel (or McDavid, if we could be so lucky) starting at wing at first while he gets acclimated to the NHL, but I think he's 1C by the end of the season.

yes at the start of the year and it was cringeworthy. He's about 47 times better on the wing.
