The Sabres are going to be great next year. Eichel is a better version of Pat LaFontaine, that's how good he is.
He's not going back to school, sorry BU.
http://www.buffalohockeybeat.com/sa...oilers-will-draft-jack-eichel-with-no-2-pick/“It’s tough to be thinking about that when you’re playing and you’re competing for a championship,” said Eichel, whose season ended eight days ago. “For me, I’m going to take a week or so to wind down and reflect on my season. I haven’t really put much thought into it.”
He added: “I’m sure a decision will be made at the right time. Right now, I have a long way to go. With that being said, it’s a dream. I’d love to play in the National Hockey League.”
Murray believes Eichel’s an NHL-ready talent.
“He’s as ready as 99 percent of the kids that have jumped into the National Hockey League,” he said.
After Murray drafts Eichel, he plans to ask him about his future.
“That’ll probably be the second thing I say to him after the draft, ‘Congratulations and what are your plans?’” he said.
Murray added: “There’s probably, hockey-wise, not a lot of reason to stay in school.”
I think he's left the door open to goback to college in case Murray wants to start him in the AHL.
He's not eligible to participate in rookie or training camp as long as he retains his NCAA eligibility...would have to sign an ELC and give up his amateur status before he could be fully evaluated in camp. Once he does that, it's really not up to him where Murray decides to play him. If he's not ready for the NHL (doubtful) then to Rochester he goes.
that's not true. Both Fasching and Compher were at dev. camp last summer and they're still without ELC's
Kind of surprised Murray is already openly talking about what'll happen when he selects Eichel.
We all know it's going down that way, just surprising they're talking about it publicly.
Murray likes to shoot straight unless he has a compelling reason not to. I don't think there's much use for smoke and mirrors here. We need a franchise center. Eichel is everything we need (granted McDavid would've been better). There's no trading him so there's no need for the somewhat silly gamesmanship that happens every year.
As for what is best for the Sabres, I am not convinced that McDavid would have been better.
I love Eichel's straight line skating speed, shot and strength over McDavid. He will be a beast to contain.
Especially paired with a Kane / Ellis winger.
Mcdavid would be better for any team in the league. It's one think to think Mcdavid will bust (which will almost assuredly not happen), but comparing both skill sets a GM takes Mcdavid 100% of the time.
Matthews will have to play with such chopped liver as Dylan Larkin. That Eichel - Matthews world junior team though. What if
It wasn't clear early on how good Eichel was going to be so I can understand his frustration to change the odds drastically at short notice just as McDavid comes around.Still can't believe Tim Murray was complaining about the lottery. His blatant roster dismantling to ensure last place gave him a 20% chance of McDavid and 80% chance at Eichel.
You got the outcome that would have happened 4/5 times. Shut up and take your franchise center you big whiner... The draft already rewards a loser mentality enough.
Eichel will be the one of McDavid vs Eichel thats gonna get marketed from now on. That Edmonton got the first pick was the worst thing that could happend for NHLs future. Now the spotlight will turn to Eichel IMO, as he will play in an American franchise
I thought he was being sarcastic because that team happened.Matthews will have to play with such chopped liver as Dylan Larkin.
UPDATE: Took a second look at the updated totals, through 1990 (the last draft to hold an active player - hi, Jaromir).
In the last 25 drafts, the AV of players drafted #1 overall is 18.77. #2, the AV is 17.16. That's still about a 9% (actually 9.4%) drop in AV from pick 1 to pick 2.
