Lmao i dont know about that. A little presumptuous isn't it?

True, but it's logical to assume, given that Jaskin attended the draft with him, and those two are really good friends. He may have a personal favorite team, but the Blues had to be really high on his list.

I think in 3-4 years Blues fans are going to look back at this draft and compare it to the 2010 draft when they snagged Schwartz and Tarasenko! The got 2 high first round talents with pick 22 and 33. Fabbri looks like he will be on the opening day roster next year and I wouldn't be shocked in Barbs got at least a 9 game tryout too!

I would also like to thank the Blackhawks for trading up and taking Schmaltz right before us, because from the sounds of it(per the Post beat writer JR) the Blues would have still taken Schmaltz if he was on the board over Fabbri. The Blues also tried to trade back up into the 1st round to get someone(it was either Sherback(sp? MTL pick or Barbashev). From the sounds of it, Bill Armstrong was shocked that Barbs was still available and almost jumped out of his seat while announcing the pick.

Maybe the Blues fortunes are FINALLY starting to change!

Nick Schmaltz is no slouch, I wanted him ahead of Fabbri at the draft. I think he's going to be a great player and it pains me to see him go to the Hawks.

^yup, too bad the Hawks swooped in and grabbed him. they absolutely knew the Blues were gonna take him.

I'm not trying to make it seem like Schmaltz is some bum, but if I had my pick between him and Fabbri, I take Fabbri every time. I just think Fabbri has game breaking talent and could become Backes replacement in a couple years at center, which I don't think Schmaltz could do. At least not in 2 years.

At this point, the Blues might agree with you, even if they originally wanted Schmaltz. They seemed really surprised by his performance in training camp and if it weren't for that injury, he might very well be in the NHL right now.

Not at all really. It was pretty clear Blues were his team of choice. Obviously he would have been thrilled to go anywhere in the first round.

He said he was crossing his fingers to be drafted where we ended up taking Fabbri.

His best friend is Jaskin.

There's no doubt they wanted Schmaltz, but I think they couldn't believe how great Fabbri was here. I don't think they regret their "plan B" whatsoever.

It may not mean much but it didn't look like the staff could have gotten up there any faster to name Fabbri. I doubt we'll ever know for sure, but I don't think anyone expected Fabbri or Barbashev to fall where they did.

LW-Ivan Barbashev

I'm sure there's already threads about this kid. I've watched him over the past couple of years and always thought he was great but this year he's stepped it up huge. St Louis scored with this kid.

What can we expect from him in the NHL?

40-50 points with a strong two way game? Or more?

Strongly believe theirs elite 2nd C potential here, and he was in my top 10 for the 2014 draft(wanted him at 24 for the nucks). Anyway 55+Pts isn't out of the question, and he will make the NHL in some capacity(I know thier is a chance he busts, as with all players, but seems very unlikely to me). St. Louis with a huge steal imo.

Played great at the World Juniors! Tied for team lead in points, and was second in goals. Kid plays a North American game. Future looks good.

Don't really comprehend how Barbashev dropped there was no possibility of him playing in the KHL or attitude issues. I've seen this kid a lot of times and he's got talent plays a North American game. Good steal for the Blues.

Failed to convert quite a few Buchnevich's set ups throughout the tourney, but overall is very talented. His compete level is impressive, constant buzzsaw in all zones.
Reminds me a bit of a young Zach Parise, albeit maybe not quite as skilled. The kid has NHL written all over him.

Hard not to envisage him being a great secondary scoring weapon, or even top line complimentary player down the road. Really strange to see him fall at the draft. Basically no flaws.

Buchnevich was really impressive at times with the puck skills, drives to the net and physical presence. I wouldn't know too much about his regular compete drive or his vision, but fascinating prospect.

Scouting reports had Barbashev falling due to not having an elite scoring touch. He's an overall solid 2 way forward that likes to hit imo.

What an animal so dangerous, great pick by St Louis. Its unbelievable how many undrafted 19 year old are on that Russian team. With the way things are going on in Russia a lot of these guys might help some teams in the NHL.

that's strange to hear, after the wjc i'd say that his vision is the last thing he need to worry about

Barbashev with his 4th goal puts Moncton up 7-3 over Halifax. Also has 2 assists for 6 points on the night. How did this guy drop into the second...
