I have a hard time seeing him going in the first round now. But at this point I don't think the draft should be his primary concern. 3 concussions in 8 months for a guy who hasn't turned 18 yet ...

I hope the Sags shut him down for the year. There are things more important than hockey.

He'll be fine, only toughen him up

There is a rumour going around he might be shut down for the remainder of the season

From what i've heard, the kid had too many concussions in a short timespan and he's gonna be out for at least 12 months for preventive measures

It's a shame, but it is really for the best that he lets his brain fully heal, or at least heal as well as possible, before he attempts to play hockey again. Unfortunately, i know a lot of players who have had to quit hockey due to repetitive concussions.

Anyone has an update on his situation?

Hendrix Lapierre peut s'entraîner sans contacts

Good news for the Chicoutimi Saguenéens since forward Hendrix Lapierre is back with the team full time and can now take part in training, avoiding contact, of course. However, a possible return to play is out of the question before at least six to eight weeks.

"Hendrix has seen a neuropsychologist in the past few days and will see him again in a month. If all goes according to plan, there will be a possibility of a return to play in six or eight weeks,"said head coach Yanick Jean.

he'll drop out of the first round.
I love him, but I don’t want my team(s) to be the one to pick him up. Head injuries are scary.

That said, biiig doubt. He’s holding in the 10-20 range on most reputable lists despite barely playing this year, and if he was going to fall, he’d be doing so already. As a couple more players heat up in the second half it may slide to the 15-25 range, but I would not bet on him falling past the first round.

Yep. Won’t be the first player to still be picked higher despite major injury.

Galchenyuk went 3rd despite only playing 8 games (with only 4pts) his draft year and Rielly went 5th in the same draft despite playing only 18 games.

I doubt Lapierre goes top 10 like he was expected due to how deep this draft is unlike 2012, but someone will definitely take the risk in the 1st rd hoping he can put his injury problems behind him.

Knee injuries vs 3 commotion in 8 month is 2 different stories. 1st round picks are valuable. Wouldn’t be surprise if he slips to the early 2nd. If a team picks him with their 1st it’s gonna be a team who has a pretty wide prospexr pool.

Nolan Patrick has a ton of head injuries and still went 2nd overall.

Serious knee injuries that take out an entire season can be just as likely to ruin a career as well. There’s plenty of examples of players missing a year, or close to a year, with concussions and ending up just fine.

Like I said I can imagine a him not going in the 1st. Someone will take a chance, especially teams with multiple 1sts.

Probably a good comparison is Jarrod Maidens from the 2012 draft. Was projected to go somewhere in the 1st round, got a concussion in the Fall and missed the rest of the season (and subsequently was forced to retire from hockey as a result).

Ottawa took him in the 3rd round hoping for a moon shot that didn’t happen unfortunately

Who is Jarrod Maidens?. - never heard of him before

Edit: eliteprospected him; 3rd overall pick in the OHL draft, OHL champion, WHC-17 gold medal, Hlinka gold medal,
was forced to retire at 18.

Think he’ll hold around 20-25. I remember Adrian Foster drafted by NJ 28 overall in 2001. Misdiagnosis of an abdominal injury limited him to 19 games through 2 WHL seasons. While finally getting proper diagnosis and surgery he just couldn’t stay healthy. Tremendous play maker had hip injuries and finally concussions forced his retirement. Hope Hendrix can heal. I seen him a couple times early this year. Very talented kid

Scored OHL Championship clinching goal in OT of Game 7 in 2011. He was a very good prospect.

I agree with this but frankly I doubt that he is in the top 35 guys drafted this summer.

3 head shots in 8 months is just a HUGE RED FLAG.

Migraines and concussions are different injuries/ailments.

Yeah, I can't recall Nolan Patrick havind head injury issues before he was drafted. He had sports hernia injuries. Played through it...
But, regarding head injuries, for guys like Bergeron and Perron who recovered, you've got guys like Peter Mueller and David Booth.

He has notable flaws outside of injuries though. He's a bad goal scorer at the junior level, which generally leads to players not being productive NHLers. He had one strong tournament. He was already starting to drop out of the top 10 before the concussion.

Patrick also didn't have a history with concussions. He broke his collarbone a couple of times at youth levels, had a sports hernia injury and had some sort of lower-body injury at the end of 2016-17. He was injury-prone but didn't have a concussion history. Lapierre also has nowhere near the track-record of Patrick to fall back on. Patrick had a pretty great 17-year-old season, where he likely challenges for between 3-6 in 2016 if he was eligible that year.
