C German Rubtsov (2016, 22nd, PHI)

Don't know why people are freaking out about Rubtsov playing 8 min a game anyways. This is a normal situation, his first 2 KHL games he will not be playing 15 minutes a game. Wait until some injuries happen + gradually near the end of the season he will get trusted with ice time more if he does well. If he is good then as early as next season he could be seeing a regular shift. Its called gradual progression not from zero to hero. Lets not forget that the KHL is a very high caliber league, no 18 year old is going to step in and become a star. If that was the case that wouldnt be saying much for the league. Even in the AHL 18 years olds dont get much ice time especially in the beginning. I suggest if you know nothing about KHL just pretend he doesn't exist for a couple years, check up on him when he's 21 you'll see everything will be ok.

Agreed and want to add one point. Rubtsov is one of the youngest players in the 2016 NHL draft. He just missed being in the 2017 draft. He is not physically mature. It is no surprise that when he is playing in the KHL against men he may struggle.

Love your profile pic! Cheers:)

Which is why NHL teams tend to like bringing players over to put them into developmental leagues where they can guarantee these players get minutes, which many on this forum are opposed to.

Would Flyers force their farm club's coach to keep 18 years old Rubtsov in a top-6 giving him 18 mins TOI even if 3 other centers play better than him? Or would they try to ease him in their line-up gradually?

P.S. Some Canadian posters are way too defensive about CHL. I know that some Russian users make provoking statements about it being not good at all but most of us just notice that cold hard facts tell that CHL doesn't have a good history of developing Russian players. And seriously, enough with Kucherov. He's NOT a product of CHL system, this argument was beaten to death :deadhorse

Unless he was getting absolutely killed out there (to the extent of it destroying his confidence) he would get top 6 minutes in the AHL. The AHL is a developmental league, and it is in the best interest of the Flyers for Rubstov to play, even if it hurts the AHL team in the win/loss column, so if 3 mid-20's players were outplaying him, they would moved on to create space for Rubstov. If he was struggling that bad, they would then just encourage him to go to the CHL where he absolutely would get 1st line minutes. Playing less than 7 minutes in a game is not going to help development, no matter what league you are in.

Edit: And to clarify, I'd agree that the KHL is the best league to develop young Russians, but thats only if they are getting minutes like Kuznetsov and Tarsenko got at that age. No one wants a repeat of the Guraynov situation.

I don't really get the confiscation and concern over the minutes so far tbh.

Outside his first game where he made two mistakes and was benched after ~30 minutes he has played:

10:19
8:20
9:16

My bet is that within a few months or he is playing ~12+ minutes a night on the 3rd line from what I have seen so far in the two games (vs Metallurg & Severstal).

He is quite obviously good enough for the KHL, his skating, defensive work and ability to get free in the Ozone have stood out. But he has areas where he needs to iron out kinks and adjust to the higher level.

I didn't like hearing he played just over 3 minutes...but am fine with where his icetime is going.

Glad to hear he's fitting in....and thanks for the updates.

Great to see he's working he way into a role as a KHL regular so young. That experience, plus U20 tourneys, will really help him in the longer term. Best thing is that we should see Vorobyov in North America first, then Rubstov after that!

Flyers 1st rd in '16 Rubtsov struggling to get KHL ice time. Average of 7 min/gm (was around 8-9 prior to today's 1 shift game) in 7 games.

Guy needs to go to the MHL

Nice of you to be looking out for Flyers prospects. ;)

I expected him to split time between the 2 leagues anyways. I just want him to play.

This is such a non-event.

What the heck did he do to warrant playing 1 minute....in a 5-2 win? Box score doesn't indicate anything catastrophic.

He was used as the 13th forward. All 4 lines were clicking.

Anyways, it's only mid September. If he's still playing limited minutes in, say, December, then he should be sent to MHL.

He's not on pace to score 40 in the CHL against some guys who will be pumping my gas in a few years, geze what a fail.

Ice time in the KHL is earned regardless of reputation. Kaprizov is a prime example. Same with Rantanen in Liiga two years ago.

Play well, make the most of your shifts, and you'll see an increase. If not, wait a while.

Oh joy! North Americans claiming a 18y.o. should get ice time in the KHL just for being drafted in the NHL. But God forbid someone starts complaining about a propect not being given a chance in the NHL. Right away they have to work hard and earn their ice time and wait and mature in the minors.

No...I think most are saying that if he is not going to be getting minutes in the KHL, let him develop in a lesser league. The KHL is not a development league....most understand that. So if the coach of mgt feel he is not ready, leg him play elsewhere.

Or do you think him getting 1 shift is good off his development?

Playing 8-10 minutes a game is fine...and if he improves to increase his minutes, fine. But having 1 shift...what can he possibly learn/prove?

I have no issue if the team feels he is not ready. Or if they feel playing someone else gives them a better chance to win. That's fine. Then send him to a place where he CAN get minutes.

If they let him, he could be in the MHL, VHL, CHL, or AHL.....lots of options. It's only a few games so far, so hopefully he gets a chance to play more.

This exactly ^^^

I wouldn't expect him to be given NHL minutes either...would just prefer him to be playing in a lesser league than sitting in either the KHL or NHL.

He has 11 pts in 11 games in the MHL I believe. Is it concerning to anybody that his PPG ratio in the MHL hasn't gone up much with respect to last season? Shouldn't a guy who was labelled as a future 2nd line center be good enough to play in the KHL for Vityaz? Maybe he just needs to get stronger/quicker.

He'll be back up soon is my guess. He's been playing through a foot injury he suffered in late September - he was actually put on the IR because of it.
