Hey y'all, another highlight video. I scoured the Russian part of YouTube for much too long to find some of his plays with the U18 MHL team.

So if he is willing to come over to North America, what are the chances he ends up in the AHL?

I'm happy with this pick. He's a highly skilled forward who only fell due to Russian factor/U18 controversy.

So happy with this pick! Wanted him, Kunin or Bellows.

Great to pick up #36 pick too!

I thought the deal worked out good for Philly. As an Islanders fan I am happy they traded because I think they might have picked Bellows, but picking up the 36th pick makes the trade worthwhile even if Bellows and/or Gauthier were there guys

Bellows and Gauthier don't really fit the bill of players the Hextall covets.

I'm pretty sure he wanted Kunin and that's who we were trying to move up for. When he went off the board, i think he knew Rubtsov would be there at 22.

Hextall values hardworking guys who high hockey IQ who play in all 3 zones and in all situations.

If Bellows was their guy, they would have taken him. And Philly got to see Gauthier a lot while watching Aube-Kubel, and chose not to even interview Gauthier.

I think Hextall wanted a C all he way in Kunin or Rubstov. Right afterwards, Hextall said that our scouts felt if Rubstov would have played in the U18, he might have been a top 10 pick.

He is really young too....still 17 years old.

Really wanted Bellows but getting this kid who is a top 15 talent + the 36th pick is fantastic value.

Hexy doing his thing again.

Giroux-Couts-Rubstov down the middle is an awesome lineup. I consider the Flyers to be my second team, so I was really happy when they made this pick.

For the angry Russians here (;)), Hextall said he fully expects Rubtsov to play the next two years in the KHL.

If he wants to get out of the KHL, I'd worry about his agent, Mark Gandler, before I worry about the Flyers.

Liked him leading up to the draft but I was doubting if he was on Flyers radar. I was way off. Thought they'd go for a CHL player.

I think he's comparable talent wise to Jost, McLeod, Kunin, etc. Should be interesting to see where he develops.

When I hear the name German Rubtsov it reminds me of German Titov.
Titov was another Russian player that was in the NHL from the 93-94 season to the 2001-02 season.
Titov played for 9 seasons in the NHL with Calgary, Pittsburgh, Anaheim and 7 games with Edmonton.

I'm in love with this pick. Looks like terrific player.

Any chance that Rubtsov could be on Team Russia for WJC, or is it too soon for him? I know that Russia don't like to bring younger players there.

And if he stays in Russia for the next season, is he expected to go right away to KHL?

Thanks Russian fellows!

I'm hoping he stays in Russia and gets enough playing time for his KHL team for the next 2 years.

He sounds like a player that is undervalued because:

A) Russian
B) Lack of exposure and he missed the U-18s for the obvious reason.

He has a ton of tools that are high end. Two way play, hockey IQ, playmaking, hands, and his skating, while not elite, is above average. This could be a player who, if develops well, could be a dynamite two way player for the Flyers.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him play in Russia this season and then get out of his contract the following year to come to NA.

I agree with most of what you said. I have not seen anything to suggest that this kid will not be "Elite". In fact, all I've heard and read is that this kid has the ability to dominate a game. I'm going to ignore scouting reports, since most are inconsistent, until I get to evaluate him myself.

From what I saw the kid has the ability to be a top line center. I was on elite prospects last night looking at MHL point leaders. (PPG). What I noticed was that Rubstov is the one of two kids at 17 putting up a point per game pace. Not only that he did it while playing against the best players in the league. If we say a kid doing this in the CHL, everyone would say he's going top 5.
