I've seen some AHL highlights of him and he looks pretty good. Someone mentioned his skating at the NHL level looks weak? Is that the issue or is it more of the lack of compete?
It’s amazing how quickly some are to label a player a bust. We’re talking about a 21 year old kid, playing his 2nd season of pro hockey that torched the AHL last year and has 16 points in 48 NHL games, which would be 27 points ovee 82 games. It’s way too early to make a determination on him one way or the other, I think the trade was a good one for both teams but why is everyone so quick to turn on a 21 year old?
No. John Chayka's "legacy" doesn't ride on the outcome of this trade or anything you posted. He wasn't responsible for drafting Dylan Strome. He is cleaning the mess of Don Maloney with this trade.Dylan Strome is not a bust, yet. However, he is lagging behind his draft class. As it stands now, the Arizona Coyotes are the biggest losers of the 2015 entry draft. Not only did they miss out on McDavid (1) and Eichel (2), but they also had some really good talent drafted after them like Marner (4) Hanifin (5) Provorov (7) Werenski (8) Meier (9) Rantanen (10) Barzel (16) Conner (17) Chabot (18) Boeser (23) Konecny (24) and Aho (35) If Strome (3) lives up to his draft ranking in Chicago and excels more than Schmaltz, then Arizona will be even bigger losers in this draft and have more egg on their face. However, if Strome turns out to be a bust and Schmaltz excels, then Arizona saves some face. I think John Cyayka's legacy largely rides on the outcome of this trade.

The fact that he played really dumb. He was incredibly frustrating to watch because he felt like he could let his tools take over and tried to force offence through himself. He has an unreal shot when it comes to strength and placement but he takes a bit too long to load it up at times and in juniors he would often take the shot knowing he could probably beat an OHL goalie instead of passing to his teammate who would have a better look.Granted, my own level of scouting probably wasn't very good back then but he seemingly had all the skill in the world and combined it with a terrific compete level. What's not to like?

yeah, they switched some things up today, Strome was practicing on the 2nd unit power play as well...we will see how the blender shakes things out..Yeah but Kunitz isn't playing tonight thou. Not sure does Kruger play either.
Colliton said that Kunitz is out for sure. (as is Martinsen).
1G 1A in his debut with the Hawks.
And that was the only positive thing about that game, am i right?.
Strome looked good in his debut. Two points and generated a couple other really food chances. I think Arizona will regret this move.
Yeah, the ole one game evaluation period rears its ugly head once more.

Probably a top 5 player on the ice honestly. Yeah he’s not the fastest guy, but he’s smart. He knew where to go for the puck. His forechecking led directly to the third goal.Looked good on the Points he did, good forecheck etc.
How was the rest of the game?
Im conflicted about Strome, you want him to get going, but not ina central team![]()
Yeah but...rest of the D....especially their passing and defending (obviously),...bad, well, forwards passing wasn't much of joy to talk about either.Nah Forsling looked really good again as well.

You asked if Strome was the only positive, I simply stated Forsling was also a positive.
