5v5 scoring is a better indicator of whether a player's scoring will translate to the NHL or not.

Great he's putting up points on the PP. But 50th in 5v5 scoring the AHL for a lauded top 3 drafted prospect is something to worry about.

Maybe he can be a Sam Gagner type of producer in the NHL.

Fair comment about PP points vs 5 vs 5 points. That is probably true as an indicator of future success (I am guessing you have read a report somewhere explaining this). Still, he is piling up points and dominating play as a rookie in the AHL. Happy to have him take a slower path than normal as long as he keeps developing and becomes an offensive C for the Coyotes in the future.

It's much more important for junior leagues. This is the AHL.

Genuinely curious, how's his skating looking these days? I see he's putting up good production in the AHL which is something I expected out of him because a lot of poor skaters excel in the AHL, but can't make that jump to the NHL. I think that will be what defines his NHL success, his skating. If he can get it up to par he will have a good NHL career. If he can't I have a hard time seeing him as a first line player.

Yes, he is a very long ways away. He has to play in the top 6 because there isn't any way he is going to have the skating or grinding ability to play in the bottom 6
Yeah, you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about. For the last time, anybody who actually knows a damn thing about the kid knows that his skating isn’t holding him back anymore. It’s above average in the AHL, even easily so. The guy seems to have a great work ethic and has been steadfastly focussing on improving his stride. So take your baseless comments elsewhere.

For those who want the opinion of somebody who isn’t any kind of professional, but has seen Strome play this year, his release isn’t spectacular, but I have yet to see it stand out in a negative fashion, and the kid has an absolute laser beam. He’s like Johansen in that you want to shout at him to shoot the puck more often.

I have watched him play 4 times this year to be exact and he looked better than last year but his deficiencies are still the same. If he made the leaps and bounds everyone keeps telling me he has made he would be in the NHL.

Most people agree that he could easily be playing in the NHL right now, but it doesn’t make sense to throw him into a bottom six role.

Can’t see Keller moving from the wing. But no reason to not expect Stepan to want to hang around as an excellent 3C as the Coyotes become a powerhouse in the latter half of his career.

It's nice to have that option. The coyotes do have Dvorak and Strome for a decade if they want down the middle. IMO Keller may be more impactful at Center. I would like to see him get a chance one day.

I'm sure Keller will get an opportunity at C. His vision and instinctive playstyle is well suited for it. All a question of whether he can play C effectively at his size.

Bracing myself for the sudden preponderance of posters who always knew he had it in him, should never have been counted out, etc...

Not sure why, but he has had his share of unfair detractors here that seemed to take glee with his slow development. And yet he is not a polarizing personality. Regardless, some of us always knew it was just a matter of time before the Yotes started reaping the rewards of selecting him #3. That day is coming soon. Very soon.

Don’t really care how many of his points come on the PP, his scoring pace is outstanding for a 20 year old in the AHL. From watching him in the OHL, I do have some concerns about his game, but he’s clearly killing it right now, has got to get an extended look in the NHL soon.

It'd be insane to write off a kid with his production track record at 20. But, there was and still are reasons for skepticism. The only way to shut everyone up is to produce at the NHL level. Remember, his brother absolutely destroyed the AHL at 20. I believe Dylan is the more talented brother, but they have similar issues. Interested to see what he can do when he's finally called up. 2015 is looking to be on track to be the best draft since 2003.

This is why people write him off: his issues in his game are the same issues so many elite level Junior and minor pro players have that have struggled to even string together 5 seasons in the NHL. He will have tons of rope as a 3rd overall pick but the people who are expecting 10 years of PPG play or even .85 PPG are insane

I would be interested in seeing what you think these same issues are that Strome and so many elite level Junior players have?
