Benning has a bad history of watching a guy in one tournament and picking him, while overruling years of efforts by his scouts. He did this with Juiolevi no?

He did, but if i learned anything in hockey, you cant look for patterns or compare one prospect to another even if you believe the thought process was the same in selecting them, these kids are all very different.

Similar to hoglander who according to rumors jim wanted (and I am no benning fan) re-ordered the draft board on day 2 of the draft and took hoglander, some speculated he seen him in a few games and got tunnel vision. Its something that will follow benning forever due the juolevi pick, which was a really stupid draft pick i said it at the time and I will say it now. And for non canucks fans our fanbase loves hoglander. I guess what I am saying is even if he got tunnel vision once again with this pick and wanted klimovich, its possible he made the right call here. He made a really bad call with juolevi, and a good one with hoglander.

I didnt like juolevi pick (I seen nothing special in his game), I really liked the hoglander pick, and I like klimovich pick.

Do you realize absolutely every GM has made a bad draft pick? It's not easy picking 18 year olds and expect their progression to be linear. Regardless, the net result of Benning being in charge of drafting has scored him Pettersson, Hughes, Boeser, Demko, Hoglander, Rathbone, and Podkolzin. All those players are going to be Canucks core moving forward and significantly contribute to the line-up.

I'd love it if Klim stays in the AHL.

I feel like he wont really develop what he needs to develop in a wide open -free stlye game of QMJHL. I dont see too much structure there.

Canucks would also have full control of what happens to Klim in Abby, from playing time, to training etc.

Klim can also go to lots of Canuck games and really take in the Western Canada culture and environment. Get adjusted and adapt to new life quicker.

I think the AHL is the right move especially with the proximity to the big club.

The fact a QMJHL team has his rights probably played into it. He looks rather settled in Van, and giving him another language to learn, and culture to adapt too isn't best for him.

Klimovich made the Canucks AHL team out of camp. He looks to be the main shooter on their Power play as of now. It's going to be very interesting to see how he does as an 18 YO in his first pro season in North America. Kid certainly doesn't lack confidence.

He didn't look out of place in his first AHL game. Which is crazy, from the Belarusian 2nd Div to the AHL. Must be the youngest player in the league as well.

Probably not until feb or march next year. He still needs to work on his defense otherwise Green will bench him after 1 shift.

very high chance he gets some brief reward call ups if he keeps scoring. they will want to give him some nhl money to keep him solvent and fend off khl offers.

but i think overall they will try not to rush him unless he beats the door down.

Let's face it not an amazingly high bar to clear.
