This development route isn’t nearly as proven though , playing in Russian leagues would be a better option in this case
Well Minsk system once you get out of junior stage is basically same as any other KHL club. I think there is little debate Belarussian league is pretty much equal to the VHL albeit has the advantage of way, way less travel.

If Dinamo says he's going to be a top 6 contributor, I think the KHL is the best place for him for a year.

That much is obvious, but how many players are playing in the top 6 in the KHL at 18 years old?..

I'd be real curious to see if JB would have gone with Chayka or Morrow had they not been taken right before.

Cool that we got him signed like right away. I'm used to Canucks 1st round picks who take awhile to sign, whether it be just because it's a longer process or they're college or Euro picks who can't sign right away.

EDIT: Well Danila isn't a first round pick but the point stands.

Danila is on the Senior Mens National team for Belarus in the upcoming final round of Olympic qualifying starting Aug 26th I believe.

Youngest player on the team,

Belarus has also listed him at 6'1 , 205 lbs.

Solid size for an 18 yr old

Benning has told the Athletic that it looks like Danila will play in the QMHL this season.

However, reports came out afterwards that Dynamo Minsk of KHL is still negotiating really hard with the Canucks to have Danila play in the KHL.

There were talks that he could start in the A next year.

Klimovich is going to be a gamer, love how Canucks have focused on high motor skilled players in the draft/trade like Podkolzin, Hoglander, Klimovich, Garland, and Miller. These type of players are excellent in the playoffs and complement pure skill players Pettersson and Boeser.

Will be watching this kid like a hawk.

Very real bust potential with this player, but even the short clips from Rookie camp show him as a better skater with better puckskills than most were expecting.
Pair that with an elite shot (he loves that Ovechkin spot!), and you've got a potential Boeser replacement if Brock does one day get traded for a top Dman.

Excited to see what is to come for Klimovich.

He will likely spend the year in the QMJHL.

I think he is still very raw.

1 year in the Q and probably 2-3 years in the AHL.

No need to rush this guy. He stills needs to learn how to play in the North American style of hockey which of course is smaller rinks and less time to make decisions with the puck.

Its nice to see that he is absolutely loving all the scenery in Vancouver and soaking it all in.

Has looked really good in the photo ops and interviews so far. Looking like the correct pick

Yes you can tell from the photo he's a future first line stud.

And his interviews with the translater definitely show that he will have zero issues transitioning to North America and dealing with his stardom

I agree. By all accounts had a solid rookie camp. Going to be cool to see how he plays in the Q this year.

I think he is a real boom or bust pick and almost certainly will turn out to be a guy who looks world class in practice and then?

Given the shortage of picks the Canucks had, nevermind the obvious need for Dmen in the system, I really wonder how this pick is going to fare longterm.

I just hope that I'm 100% wrong here on him.

What do you hope you are wrong about? You said hes a boom or bust pick, i think thats fair. Nothing to hope your wrong about unless you prefer hes an average sure fire bottom 6 guy. Players that go 41st overall typically are either boom or bust or projected as more of a bottom 6 player.

I liked the pick personally. I will take the boom or bust in this draft spot.

I think that he's a bigger bet to be a bust and there were Dmen there for the taking, which is an organizational need bigtime.

Benning has a bad history of watching a guy in one tournament and picking him, while overruling years of efforts by his scouts. He did this with Juiolevi no?
