Some of what say is true but yes you can shelter him. He won't get many starts in the d-zone. Those will go to Gordon and Nuge. As for d matchups, at home you can dictate that somewhat. On the road much harder. But opposing coaches may want to matchup against the Pouliot-Nuge-Eberle line anyways as that line was very dangerous this year going up against the toughest matchups. If you matchup against McDavid-Hall then Nuges line will kill you. I guess we'll see what happens next year

Fair enough. Right, you can give him mostly offensive zone starts and at home it is easier indeed. But my point still stands and I don't think thera are too many lines on the Oilers that should get that much more defensive zone starts just to shelter someone who is maybe instantly the best player on that team.

Penguins picked in top 2 for 4 consecutive years. Was a franchise losing every night, drawing terrible attendance, and bankrupt. Turned out pretty good for the last generational player. I wouldn't call him ruined.

That being said, they need to address some needs even if it means putting on the big boy pants and trading someone or something of value.

I don't know much about McDavid. Is he really a generational talent? How much better is he than Stamkos or Tavares or Kane?

4 out of the last 6 1st overalls have gone to Edmonton. that's more than teams that have been in the league for 100 years.

I get what your trying to say, but the draft has only been around since 1963 not 1915. Oilers are gonna get a lot of hate for good reason, but cmon...

There's a difference between tanking (see Arizona) and just incompetent/pathetic... I'd say only one year did the Oilers truly tank (Hall).

Are you really trying to argue that trying to be good and failing horribly is more deserving than being bad on purpose? Can't tell if serous...

No, but he is making it clear that Edmonton was NOT tanking.

Remind me, how many number one picks has Edmonton ruined?

the answer? 0

Hall was top 10 scorer last season, this season he had some injuries
RNH is only 21-22. unreal 2way game
Yak was ruined by TORONTOS god Dallas Eakins, since fired Yak is good again.

So their u have it:yo:

I come here to read up on future Oiler Connor McDavid and I see the whine fest has migrated here too.

Guess I shouldn't be too surprised.

Well lets change the subject and dream about what line he'll be playing on...

Pouliot-RNH-Ebs
Hall-McDavid-???

nooo, you keep him with Roy for the time being.

Edit: not that mcdavid and yak wouldn't work, but allows us to have three legit scoring lines.

Yak will be 22 starting next season and you still want him on the third line or you want him playing with Nuge/Mcdavid to see if he can bring more?

My permasmile has not left my face since the drinking began yesterday. I didn't even tune into the draft on tv. I didn't think the Oilers had a shot. I figured if we won my phone would start blowing up.

What do you know, my phone went crazy...It was a fun..

Relax...I'd want him wherever he's gonna be most successful...or rather wherever the OILERS and HIM are gonna be most successful. If that means he plays with McD then so be it but if it means he's ripping it up against weaker competition then that's fine too.

I guess you felt bad for Yzerman when he was drafted by Detroit, right? Our team was a toxic craphole at that point.

I'm seeing a lot of posts by fans of teams that seriously have no room to talk. Especially Toronto fans. Someone remind me when the leafs transformed from joke organization to gold standard for success. I must of been in a coma the last thirty years and missed that.

Either a player is going to be a ge.generational talent or they aren't. Yzerman scored 155 pts with **** qll for talent around him. If McDavid is as good as people were claiming little over an hour ago he'll be just fine..

Nice answer........ Finally a man with a head on his shoulders instead of all these immature whiners.

Actually read it all. The majority of the posts have been about bashing the Oilers. Many from Toronto fans too. Get a klenix ,dry your tears and be happy you probably get Strome. He will be a great addition to your team.

It's kinda funny though how people are against the Oilers because of the 1st overalls when in fact they did not really tank to get them and were lucky to win the lottery. It'd be different if they purposely tanked to end up 30th place year in and year out and get the 1st overall but that's not the case here. I think honestly it would be more shameful if Sabres got the 1st overall two years in a row now with their obvious tanking, and I say that as a guy who likes and follows the Sabres quite a bit and respect Tim Murray.

Anyway, can we get this discussion back on McDavid the prospect? I'm psyched to see him go up against Nurse and the rest of SSM for a full playoff series. Tons of good prospects in that game from many teams around the league. It's gonna be a good one!

So do the Oilers deserve RNH? You know, they improved sooo much the year after they finished last place for Hall. Then they improved soooooo much more, up to the 2nd worst team in hockey the year after that for Yak. They've had time to become atleast middle of the ****ing road in a non-lockout season. Oh but they added Mark Fayne and Benoit Pouloity in 2014!! we tried guyyys, we triiiedd so hard.
