He looks like current Crosby or last year Ovi on defense. That's not a good thing. I really hope the Oilers can surround him with people to teach to play the game the right way.\

Maybe it was an off game on D but his positional awareness looks absolutely non-existent on defense.

He should really try to play like Patrick Kane defensively :sarcasm:

Kane's D the last couple years has been decent. When he first came in.....well....it was non existent. But he wasn't really expected to play that as much as recently.

Whatever you need to tell yourself to sleep at night.

We never won the RNH pick first of all. And second of all...yeah...the Oilers actually DID TRY to improve. There was never any blatant tanking by the team...they were just that bad because management has no idea how to support the core or develop players outside the first round.

You were last place for Hall, and once again last place for Nuge by a wide margin the year after. What does winning the pick have to do with it? The only point I'm looking at is people saying Edmonton "deserve him" more then anyone else in the bottom-5 because they didn't "tank". They were in the same position as these teams 4-5 years ago, and their still there. What did they do the year they picked up Hall to get better and avoid finishing last again.

A Sabres fan accusing another team of tanking. That's rich :laugh::laugh:

I'm not accusing anyone of tanking.

This is becoming a bit of a joke at this point. I don't see the point in rewarding teams for intentionally being ****.

It did the opposite of that... 3 teams tanked (Buffalo, Arizona, and Toronto), and the team that fired their coach, and started to improve (Edmonton) is the one who won...

Take a look at the shuffling of defensemen and goalies since Hall was drafted and you'll see moves were made to TRY and get better. Management is simply so bad that they couldn't support a core of players and move up in the standings. Until recently, we didn't have the assets to move a significant piece of our roster to shore up another position without leaving a hole. Whether we deserve Connor McDavid or not, most of us Oilers fans could care less. We're just happy we were lucky enough to win.

How nice was it waking up this morning and remembering that you have McDavid, Oilers fans? Musta been great

Its great, then checking the salt on HF from sour fans and checking mcdavid highlights at the same time is great. I am very happy for the pick and now the oilers don't deserve him. But how petty some posters are its weird to me, its only a game hat they don't even play

Here's hoping he tears Shanny's leafs a new ******* for the next 15 years.

I loveeeee haters like you. A team 4 years back from hiatus, barely have a NHL eligible arena (only fits about 15k or just over) and the hate for the Leafs...a team that you have no connection with, fan base wise and rivalry wise and your hate is so strong!!! God I can't wait to see your reactions and comments when the Leafs are good again. Damn it's going to be so fun. HATE BABY HATE!!!

By the way again and for the hundredth time the Leafs didn't tank...they're that bad..tanking is what Buffalo did.

Let's put it like this, hall eberle and nuge are the longest serving oilers, we TRY to gey better but still end up bad, not tanking just poor management

Perhaps they didn't tank but the players completely quit on the team which isn't exactly any better, just like it isn't any better that Edmonton's management is simply so bad that they've unintentionally had 800 high picks. There is no better nor fair nor deserving. There are bad teams at the bottom and a lottery determined one got the 1st overall pick.

no when people refer to tanking it's more a point to management...like they're goal is to tank to get the better pick. Toronto never tanked at all, yeah the players gave up but that's not on Shanahan or management or ownership. In Buffalo it was clear they were tanking, any time a goalie made a save he was traded like a day later. Toronto didn't trade Kessel, didn't move Dion, didn't move Bozak, none of their core was moved. That isn't tanking!

There's a huge difference in being bad and tanking, and it's mind boggling people don't see the clear difference.

Mhm it's not like the Oilers traded Perron and Petry for picks...not sure how they tanked less then Toronto.

There's not really a point in arguing about this as it's ****ing repulsive. And that's all there is to it.

I agree that Toronto management didn't "tank", at least not in a big way. All management did is what you normally expect under those circumstances -- selling off UFA's and firing a coach. I'm just saying the players definitely quit -- not for McDavid of course, but they gave up. In my book that doesn't make them more or less commendable or deserving of a top pick than the utter incompetence of the Oilers or the pragmatic "tanking" of the Sabres.

So if the Leafs had won you would have felt the same way?

I seriously doubt that.
