Worst part about this for the league and for McDavids legacy, is that even if they do turn it around and have success, no one will ever respect them for it.

Edmonton winning the lottery 4 times in 6 years is a ****ing disgrace and about the worst possible thing that could have happened for the league.

Some of what say is true but yes you can shelter him. He won't get many starts in the d-zone. Those will go to Gordon and Nuge. As for d matchups, at home you can dictate that somewhat. On the road much harder. But opposing coaches may want to matchup against the Pouliot-Nuge-Eberle line anyways as that line was very dangerous this year going up against the toughest matchups. If you matchup against McDavid-Hall then Nuges line will kill you. I guess we'll see what happens next year

:D:D:D You sound like the Oilers are something to be feared. Thats funny

Am I the only one almost convinced that he will demand a trade before going into the miserable organization which is the Oilers?

McDavid is going to be a superstar in the league. His own personal achievements might be severley delayed (no Conn Smythes or Cups any time soon), but he will be good in any city he plays for.

I don't think he will be enough to turn the Oilers around, but to say he won't be a star because of the team drafting him is ridiculous.

Oh, all these salty tears and sour grapes, I love it!

To answer OPs question, yes, he will. And it's going to be absolutely lovely.

How are Oilers fans STILL so cocky? They've sucked for so long, and one player is not going to turn this team around. We've gone through this 3 times before, and they still suck. Their goaltending and defense STILL suck. They are going nowhere. They are no more talented offensively than Colorado or Dallas, and both Colorado and Dallas have better defense, and Colorado has better D and goaltending. Neither Dallas nor Colorado have really put it all together yet, but at least their management seems to have a plan in place. High skilled forwards are nice, but one guy doesn't fix all their problems overnight.

Where does this cockiness come from? Have you not seen enough talent die in Edmonton? Even if he's a 100 point player, is Edmonton competitive? NOPE. You'll have something more exciting to watch, but the team still sucks.

In fairness, the Oiler's have only won 3 lottery's in the past 6 years.

Have you read this site since yesterday? The deluge of insults and personal attacks tend to rile us up a bit. And it happens every time something goes on with the Oilers. Schultz signing was the same way, so were the other draft lotteries. If you guys don't like the odd Oiler fan post in a sea of hate, maybe try being a little less hateful.

Hey Edmonton fans, how does it feel to see McDavid look so dejected to know he's going to your town? I'm honestly curious.

That's exactly why Hall tweeted him and I'm sure Oil players will be texting and calling him.

Poor kid just found out he wasn't going to TO, what do you expect.

He will never have the team success to be considered generational. Edmonton has so many other problems that keep players away.

Yep. Front office is atrocious, they can't build a bottom 6 and defense worth crap, their goaltending is iffy at best...

Plus no one wants to live in Edmonton.

McDavid is not going to fix them.

It's more than abundantly clear he doesn't want to play for Edmonton. But as others have pointed out, he'll be fine.
I don't see him staying in edm9nron once he's an FA though, and that's ok to.

Yeah hall and his ppg seasons suck. Or eberle and his 76 point season and recent dominant play, sure sucks. Or RNH and the continued development into being a premier two way #1 center. Or Klefbom and playing advanced (and regular stats) on par with top young blue chip D

People can cry all they want and make delusional posts, but the stats don't lie. Edmonton still has horrible D and goaltending, but think god they have premier D prospects and a blue chip goaltending prospect.

It's not cockiness it's just funny seeing everyone react like you are.

So let me get this straight, you despise Edmonton because they have all this talent and yet they suck. So, hypothetically, if they start to play well and actually allow our young guys to thrive will you still hate us? it just seems like, for Edmonton, no matter what happens people will hate them.

at the start of the rebuild, we had almost no talent in the NHL or AHL. Hall had to suffer that. McDavid doesn't have that cross to bear. He's got it better here than in any of the other major lottery contenders.

Sabres have a far better project core than the Oilers and Eichel will end up
with a better career than McDavid. Eichel will also win the Stanley Cup.
I don't see McDavid in Edmonton very long and will end up on the Leafs within 5 seasons.

I certainly think he and his agent will have a conversation about it. Whether or not that pull the trigger is anyone's guess.
Yes, you're right, his agent, Bobby Orr, who has another client on the Oilers (who he constantly gives advice on how to be a better pro,) is going to advise him to not report.
