Too bad he missed so many games. He'd have well over 100 pts.now.

i find it strange there isn't much talk here about McD considering he's going first.

I didn't think it was his best game honestly.

Yes he did produce and made some beautiful passes on the power play but he wasn't as dominating as he usually is IMO.

Still an awesome game, but I think he's even better than that. They just killed it on the PP.

Priceless.

Is McDavid playing more carefully now after the injury? Not that a second injury could harm his draft stock in any way. Unless his arm or leg gets torn off. Then he would probably drop to 2nd OA.

The only thing to talk about is how great he is and everyone knows that. I guess we're just waiting till he plays in the NHL now and see how he does or maybe the playoffs and see how he does against the best teams in the CHL.

Crazy to think that this is only his 3rd career 5 point night ever...was also his 17th career 4 point night.

Career 4 & 5 point nights in OHL:

1 in 12-13
7 in 13-14
*1-4-5 01-12-14
*0-5-5 02-08-14
9 in 14-15
*1-4-5 01-25-15

Honestly the way creates that space to score...I firmly believe he'll be a point/game guy right out of the bat.

It's tough to get the kind of ice time necessary out of the gate. Even if Buffalo gets him, I'd be a bit surprised if he doesn't start out in protected minutes, not to mention he'd be joining a team that has been horrible offensively (and in general) for a couple of years. If he goes somewhere else (say, Edmonton) he'll see more competition for top minutes.

When the lottery "randomly" selects Arizona...he won't put up 100 next year. He will by the time they hit Seattle though.

Just because you have a harebrained conspiracy theory about how Bettman will manipulate the lottery to give Connor McDavid to the Coyotes doesn't mean you have to take shots at them out of nowhere.

I called Phoenix last year as McDavid's most likely destination, won "fair and square" via the NHL's "random" draft lottery process... but if it's already a fait accompli that Arizona is going to relocate, then I don't see the point in that type of rigging, given it will be McDavid's assignment to grow the game in the desert...and for that, McDavid and the NHL need more than just 2 or 3 years.

And his chances of hitting the 100 pt mark his rookie season? I give him equal odds of pulling off that feat.

Ice time is not the only issue. The game has changed in the decade since Crosby started. In his first year 7 players had 100 or more points. Last year Hall was 7th in scoring at 80 points. It's become particularly tough for young kids since they must spend so much of their energy learning to play defense. Regardless of who gets him 65-70 points would be a terrific first year even for a kid as good as McDavid.

I agree the game has changed, however I believe people were talking about a point-per-game not 100 points, so that more or less normalizes to Crosby's 100 points. 11 players had 79 or more points last year, which is close enough to being a PPG. 5 had 82 or more. Either way we agree, 65-70 would be a very strong rookie season, the best in quite some time as far as comes to mind at the moment.

He is a dynamic version of Joe Thornton. Way faster and a better shooter, but they both think the game at such a high level.

I feel McDavid would succeed in his rookie season even if he was slow and couldn't shoot the puck very well. The guy is three steps ahead of everyone. Get him a scoring winger or two and he can put up 80 points in his first year.
