yes. none of the teams drafting him have the supporting cast for him to play above himself and hes wont be a better player than the elite players in the NHL next season.

Toronto and Edmonton probably do. Between Kessel and JVR or Hall and Eberle I could see him putting up 80+ points. Those are all legitimate 1st line players.

lol how are these two comparable?

Draft years...

Mackinnon - 75 points in 44 games (playing in the higher scoring Q, with Druoin, the next best CHL player on his wing)
McDavid - 107 points in 40 games (including a stretch where he was coming back from injury)

Scoring wise, they're not even in the same realm.

I would compare them only in the effect McDavid is playing against teams who probably have a few scrubs on them. The main consensus I've gotten from this thread is Connor is amazing off the rush. That is fine and dandy when you're playing against weak defensive schemes and/or players and can expose that a whole lot more when you are clearly above average in skill. Look at Lebron James when he played high school ball, you could tell he was ready for the jump.

But just like Lebron, Connor could see the game change in order to neuter his ability to fly up on the rush, much like MacKinnon likes to do too. It will be a different story when Toews, Bergeron or any other high level opponent is defending against him...or if he has to play against 1/2D men who are elite.

It is all speculation until we see what the kid can do when he is drafted and gets his legs under him while playing in a NHL sweater. Can he play like Crosby and still be extremely effective and adaptable with his game? Or will he play like Mackinnon who has had a setback this year?

**or compliments

McDavid with a guy like Huberdeau could be pretty dangerous. Jokinen, Boyes, and Hayes are also pretty good complimentary players

Plus, with McDavid, they could convert Bjugstad to the wing, with Barkov at 2C.

Bjugstad - McDavid - Huberdeau would be very good 1st line right off the the bat. I could see him breaking 75+ points fairly easily in that setup.

Buffalo would have the likes of Reinhart, E. Kane, Ennis, Moulson (we've seen what Moulson can do with a good center) and Girgensons to play with, plus if we sign anyone in free agency.

Not amazing by any means, but he would have some decent talent around him on Buffalo.

Edmonton has a ton of young offensive talented wingers for him to play with.

Arizona could be difficult.

Plus you have Ekblad on the point for mcdavid to feed one-timers to

Toronto, ON.
Boedker, Domi, Duclair, Perlini, Dvorak, and whomever we draft with the CHI 1st (could very well be one of Konecny, Sprong, White, or Boeser) all say hello. Losing Yandle sucks but we still have OEL on our backend too.

I think they mean as of just next season. I doubt all three of Domi, Duclair and Dvorak are full time NHL'ers next season, most likely just Duclair and Domi. Perlini is a long shot to make the Coyotes next season, as he is a 96 and can only be in Arizona or the OHL.

McDavid currently has the highest points per-game average ALL-TIME in the OHL for a player in their draft year...

Had to look it up, but he is pretty damn close to Lindros.

McDavid as of today: 2.62
Lindros 1990-91: 2.61

If you go back to the OHA days, Bobby Smith reached 3.15 PPG.

Which begs the bigger question -- who gets the OHL (and presumably CHL) MVP award?

We are talking about one of the most impressive seasons EVER. But Marner is also putting up ridiculous numbers, and has a healthy point lead on McDavid.

I think its fair to say at this point whoever gets OHL MVP will win CHL player of the year (Bjorkstrand only other candidate).

And that's with an injury slowing down his potential production. He was at 3.01 or something like that before the injury.

He was at 2.83 points per game before his injury.

His point total was hurt by his injury but not his points per game.

He played the entire World Junior Tournament before returning from his injury. Maybe you could make a case that the injury slowed him down during the tournament, but to make the excuse that the injury slowed him when he returned to the OHL, after played a full 7 games, isn't right. He's been close to 2.5 points per game since then, and a goal per game, 24 in 24. He's been fully healthy since his return to the OHL. Even at the World Juniors, aside from some rust shown in the first couple of games, he looked fine.

Since when is 51 points in 17 games 2.83? That's 3.00 on the dot.

Ehlers should take it in the Q, his raw numbers aren't as impressive as McDavid's but he's contributed on over 50% of his team's goals while playing.

To be fair, he had just under a half a game in a 4 - 0 game, it's not inconceivable to think he wouldn't have gotten another 2 points against a terrible miss team.

There's no way Connor McDavid is not getting the CHL/OHL MVP award.
Marner should be feeling lucky he's even in the conversation if not for the injury McDavid would have a healthy point lead on him.

He was actually given a game misconduct in the fight for taking the other player's helmet off.
