How many teams have honestly had a generational talent? Maybe half a dozen?

Boston, Pittsburgh, Edmonton/LA, Detroit, Montreal?

I'd consider NJD (Brodeur), Buffalo (Hasek), Chicago (Mikita), and NYI (Bossy) too. Hasek's career was a bit shorter, but at his best Id say he was better than Brodeur/Roy. 6 Vezina's and two Hart's in essentially ~10 years as a healthy starter.

If any team deserves McDavid it's the Leafs. They have only drafted 1st overall once. They have never really had a generational talent. Plus I think the leafs deserve something good to happen after 50 years of torture!

Leafs are bad by the own design, failure of management and the players they bring in. They think they can by the league and have a massive sense of entitlement. They deserve about nothing, and in fact even some bad luck after they once again got lucky in getting rid of clarkson

Haha no kidding. Any ****** team can justify how they 'deserve him'. You'll only hear a Leafs fan say something like that.

Leads and Oilers are very similar in this regard

unreal.

Almost makes you want to just hit the FF button and start the 2015-16 season. The NHL should just kick off the season with the 2 teams that draft McD and Eichel 1-2. Give the kids top billing. And insist Rogers revamp and drastically upgrade its production values, b/c it has been brutal. worse than I expected. otherwise, I'm just going to have to be there live to see McD's 1st NHL game.

Just for some perspective.

Crosby played his last 25 games at 3.44 PPG, closer to 4 when you factor in a league scoring levels. He finished at a 2.71 PPG.

McDavid's pace this year as a 3rd year, 17/18 year old is more similar to Crosby's pace as a 1st year,16 year old, when you factor in a league scoring levels.

I know people want to believe he is better or a better prospect and maybe he will be but the statistical comparisons are not going to establish that. Crosby's numbers are arguably perhaps the best ever for a CHL prospect (when scoring levels are factored in) and he inarguably had the best CHL draft eligible career ever.

Best ever? Didn't Lemieux put up 4 PPG in the Q?

Much higher scoring when Mario played. The % amount that Crosby was ahead of everyone else was pretty similar to Mario.

Crosby was the only draft eligible player, and maybe the only player period, to win CHL player of the year twice.

McDavid not being at this level is not necessarily an indication of the level he reaches in the NHL. I think Crosby may have been as NHL-ready as any elite/generational prospect has ever been besides Lindros maybe, which was reflected in how he dominated in juniors.

It's not that the organization deserve him (No organization deserves him)

But Toronto's fans sure as hell deserve McDavid/A generational talent more than any franchise in the league and it's not close. No fans are more loyal. No fanbase is larger. No fan base is more tortured.

tough to compare Crosby/McDavid....played in different leagues in a different time with different teammates

was Crosby's team as stacked with draft eligible's as McDavid's?

I would add Philly (Lindros) to the mix. His career may have been shorter than it should have been, and he may not have been the best guy off the ice, but he was 100% considered a generational talent entering the league and fulfilled that hype for roughly a 6 year span. There hadn't been a power forward with that combination of strength, nastiness, speed and skill before him (HM to Messier, but he wasn't as big or as strong as the Big E). I'm not sure we'll see another for quite some time.

That's a bit of a stretch.

I will say, however, that I always get a kick out of the delusional Leafs masses who believe that every superstar from Ontario wants to play for them.

Then we should give them the 1st pick every year. :shakehead

your thread makes no sense at all. Their struggles the past 7 years is their own Undoing, Brian Burke unwillingness to "rebuild" back in 09, and it's going to haunt them now. No one is torturing them, but themselves.

No one deserves anything.

fans and teams don't but Mcdavid does. His best shot is in Buffalo. Toronto and Edmonton have some internal messes inside the organizations as well as massive amounts of media. Personally feel like Mcdavid would flourish in Buffalo more than either of them. (toronto fan)

As much as i want him, i'd hate to see the Leafs ruin him

Crosby finished the season strong. If you compare them after 60 games it would be the other way around. 2.71 ppg in 62 games is unreal

Crosby scored 86 points in his final 25 games. That's ****in insane
