I've watched the replay like 20 times and I can't figure out when the puck goes in the net and if it went in during the scrum, it ain't off Bedard's stick.

ok so they didn't give the goal to Bedard, but I still can't find when the puck actually crosses the lines based off the replays we got from TV.

I know this post has more to do with Hitmen game than Bedard so my bad. Hitmen played him pretty well this game, his goal came because his shot is just unreal.

It’s just unfortunate, I don’t think I’ve seen a prospect of this caliber have such a poor supporting cast around him

This could be a bit of a wildcard for him. Get him some decent talent and does he produce more or does he produce differently?

He has a generational shot, elite playmaking skills, and an elite IQ to leverage both of those. The primary doubt about him is that he doesn't have Crosby's physicality or McDavid's speed to create offensive opportunities and/or puck possession but once he has the puck in the offensive zone, he is arguably more dangerous than those two, and inarguably is the better pure goalscorer.

Yeah too many bad giveaways but man that shot, how does he get so much torque on it?

It's an amazing thing to behold.

Seriously, at this point I just want to get him through what's left of his junior career with enough juice to go play 10 games with the NHLers in May. He can address those issues at the next level next year with the pros, better players and, most importantly, better coaching. Hopefully he lands with an NHL that has both; not all the bottom feeders do.

but yes, I concur. man. that shot! I've never seen anything like it from a 17 year old.

I've seen it plenty of times now but sometimes I'm still surprised by the velocity of it, it's like a bullet coming out of a gun and he can do it sneaky in close to the goalie, you don't even see it sometimes. Just don't expect it all all from a kid his size.

He played with talent at the WJC and played otherworldly so I think we already know the answer

It certainly bodes well for him albeit in a smaller sample. One would expect he will be surrounded by a relatively higher level of talent on whatever NHL team he gets drafted by.

It will be interesting to see if he can be as much of a one man wrecking crew like McDavid or be as offensively versatile as Crosby who was able to produce with any quality of linemate which created depth for the Pens.

Very few assets to trade since they went on 2 runs back in 2017 and 2018 and depleted the cupboards.
Which is so mind boggling that they didn't trade him and get probably the biggest return in recent WHL history.

Instead you just get a couple more games and a 1st round loss at best

Knowing how junior players produce substantially better when they have a better team around them (look at Dobson or Steel's stats before/after getting into good teams) I think we would be seeing Bedard have even more ridiculous numbers than he does now

Generational players tend to produce regardless of the quality of their team or linemates so I would be surprised if he did that much better than what his numbers are projecting now (McDavid/Crosby level). What they tend to do is elevate the play of their linemates.

Crosby took a team that was by far the worst in the Q the year before he was drafted to the Memorial Cup final.
McDavid's team wasn't as bad in his first year at age 15 and they were #2 in the league the next year at age 16.

Apparently he wouldn’t waive his no trade. But who really knows. It would’ve been cool to have seen him on a top team.

How is Bedard's speed/skating?

Not McDavid/J.Hughes/Mackinnon level but still 'elite'?.. Or?
VERY similar skating style to Marner imo. Very deceptive. Really good and decisive at changing angles and speeds and creating the space for himself that he needs, but not a top speedster by any means. Neither was Gretzky though.

Ugh you are so exhausting to be around

Whatever, I guess it’s better for Jenner to not have JG as his primary linemate than it is to have him as his primary linemate. Glad we agree.
That would be the mental gymnastics you're going through.

What's crazy to me as well is that everyone comparing his season to mcdavids Draft year....aren't accounting for the fact mcdavid was on a nasty eerie team and I believe was on a line with atleast one of if not both of Debrincat and strome (certainly on the PP) let alone guys like raddysh and dermott on the back end snappin the puck up the ice, meanwhile Bedards just literally by himself it seems like...not that suzdalev, howe and svozil aren't good hockey players....but man.... this is wild.

I thought i'd have to wait longer before another prospect emerged that can legitimately be touted as in the same tier of mcdavid..... not ready to say he's better or will be better obviously.....But i'm not ready to rule out that it could happen.

I mean look at the stats of the guys Bedard is linemates with. They're very good because of what Bedard does. I'm very willing to get you're going to see a dip in Howes stats next season despite being a year older because he's not playing with Bedard.

Outside of those players, Regina might have the worst supporting cast in the league.

There is absolutely no way Bedard would not have improved stats if he actually had good players to play with.

Crosby and McDavid didn't have that issue

Unless he's already got some kind of guarantee to play in the World Championship that seems like a really weird decision by him

A big part of it was money. Regina is trying to upgrade their arena, Bedard is selling out the arena and now there's lots of buzz about them getting a new arena.

Bedard is money.

Ya I thought so too. But that could be Regina just saying that.
I heard from a person I trust, that Bedard in fact wouldn’t agree to a trade because he feels he can produce regardless of team, his draft position is set in stone and is just looking to finish out this season knowing he will be turning pro next year.

There's a guy who scored 70 goals in the OHL in 2017... he's playing in the AHL right now and scores 15ish goals a season.

I appreciate your rationality, openness to entertain the thought and have a discussion over this like 2 normal people. Through our ignorances we'll discover the truth.
That’s a real gotcha there!

Probably thinks he has a very good shot at making the WC team as well, which would matter much more to him and prepare him better than continuing to dominate junior I'd imagine.

Shows he's really driven to be a star in the NHL I take
