Barring injury I’d be extremely surprised if he’s not in the hall of fame one day.
based on the general tenor of this thread, this would be him underachieving lol

You're intentionally shooting yourself in the foot with your scenario, for absolutely no reason. Even if a team felt that he wasn't the ideal fit, when the gap between him and the rest of the prospect pool is as big as it is, you draft him and trade him for an absolute haul.
I think I said this in another thread, but any GM that uses the 1OA pick to draft someone other than Bedard, is getting fired before they step off that podium.
Do you have a ruler where we can actually measure that gap? how big is it? is it in inchs? meters?
Asking for a friend
With the exception of Michkov, who we haven't gotten to see much of, it's miles wide. I'll steal a quote from Bob Mckenzie 'It's Bedard at No. 1 and a wide chasm to everyone else'
I wouldn't take Michkov top 3 in this draft even if there wasn't the Russian/contract issues. With the exception of Michkov, who we haven't gotten to see much of, it's miles wide. I'll steal a quote from Bob Mckenzie 'It's Bedard at No. 1 and a wide chasm to everyone else'
Ya you take the SUV and then your wife divorces you because for the same up front cost you could’ve had the car worth 10x. Awful comparisonSay you had a ferrari at home but no suv. You want to buy a second car but say you have a budget cap and have to take care of a family, wouldnt an suv be a more resonable option as a second car rather than another ferrari?
if you can't understand the difference between prospects like Slaf and Bedard than why do you bother posting about it.....literally no one in 2022 draft had any meaningful hype(franchise talent hype) except Wright which was a year before he got drafted by the time the draft started he was hardly doing much compared to what was expected of him and ended up going 4th in a draft that wasn't all that strong to begin with. Bedard is exceeding all the already stupid high expectations that were thrown at him at the start of the season. There is literally no one that watches him and his peers that doesn't state the gap is big because it's evident that he plays at another level. You know, we have seen people get hyped up and mass overhype a player like there's no tomorrow and poof, nothing after.
The Habs fans were so HYPED up for Wright, they got Slaf... they booed, then OVER HYPED Slaf to levels of GODLIKE almost... some were saying he would be an instant 1st liner etc... and poof, he's about to disapear and where is Wright right now? OHL.
I'm sticking to my guns, the CHL diminished in value the last 2 years. I see Bedard as a Kane or Towes not as a Crosby, Ovechkin, McDavid or Malkin...
And for those reasons, I rather go with a safe bet in Leo, who's skill level is really not that bad as people try to assume it is and who's good on both ends of the ice, something no one is taking into consideration.
I'm not saying Leo is the better player, but he's got the full package which is something under appreciated and not sexy but so-so so sooooooo much more useful in the long run and in the playoffs.

Was looking at WHL standings and something stood out. Just how bad is Regina? 169 goals scored on the season including tonight so far. Bedard has 88 points or points on 52% of Regina's goals despite missing 11 games or pretty much 1/4 of the season. This is just ridiculous.
You're just shooting yourself in the foot, getting suited up for a marathon and then proclaiming "I really like this slower pace that this foot injury caused me, it'll manage my pace in the long run". You're overthinking it to the 10th degree.
Bedard was light years the best player in the WJC, a tournament that is full of players that don't play in the CHL. Even if the CHL was a little weaker recently, he wouldn't be setting records in an international tournament if he wasn't far and away the best player in this draft (and the best player amongst guys 2-3 years older than him).
When the gap is this big, just take the consensus best player, even if you don't want him. Trade him away, get a haul. This isn't like last year's draft where nobody really stood out amongst the draft eligible players. This is a slam dunk, an empty nap tap in. Don't go full Patrik Stefan on it.
i just dont see where the problem is really, I have the opinion that a Leo would do better. Why does that bother you or any one else? I'm not even saying Bedard wont be good, im not saying he wont be generational. Im only saying that Leo in my opinion would do better (overall). Why is this a problem, how does this affect anyone's life i don't understand. I'm i forcing my ideaology on any one? No, its an opinion based on facts both objective and subjective. Why are we stretching this.
If you want to debate me on the gap, then lets do it. No, the gap is not as big as you're saying. Its a pure fantasy, an idea that has been fueled by the media and overhyped by the fans. Slovakia almost beat Canada and they dint even had Slaf.
No the gap is not big, Bedard's game is not a guaranteed to be transferable in the NHL right away, who knows maybe never. Its a different level, its a different speed, less space, goalies don't leave much room.
Im sorry man, it took Slovakia 1 really good goalie to shut down (almost) the whole team Canada. The game Canada won 11-1 where everyone lost their panties that night was a different goalie.... the moment they put a big dude who's actually good at goaltending Bedard struggled scoring, he had alot of opportunities to do so and only managed 2 againts Slovakia.... yeah Slovakia...
So imagine this now... Bedard playing for a crappy team and facing NHL defenses and NHL goalies... he's not going to get the same amount of chances to score goals, neither the space nor will the goalies look like swiss cheeze.
Matter of fact i dont believe in NHL generational talents any more who aren't at least 6.1. McDavid is the guy right now and there's no body that will come close to him. The way the league is setup, i don't see any rookie right now scoring 100 pts in their first season like a Crosby, Ovy or McDavid... because thats what he's being compared too.
I see you didn't respond to this last time in posted it. Did you not see what Bedard did against Sweden and Carlsson?i just dont see where the problem is really, I have the opinion that a Leo would do better. Why does that bother you or any one else? I guess there's only been two generational talents in the NHL with Lemieux and McDavidYou heard it here folks, you must be at least 6’1” to have a shot at being generational. Don’t ask “why that number?”, it’s just science.

Do they not try as hard in those games or something? Was that not a meaningful game?Group stage though
Fortunately the entire nhl regular season is 'group stage'Group stage though
What do you make of Slovakia's game in the semis then?Do they not try as hard in those games or something? Was that not a meaningful game?
Group stage though
