Looks like 2 goals for Bedard so far after 2 periods tonight. They had an assist up at one time too, but seem to have taken it away.
There might be a day where WHL teams realize they should rush the f*** back when Bedard is on the ice following a turnover, but until then he'll keep getting breakaway gimmies.
Love Cam but if I have to. Read 1 more. Internet person exclaim points of data. Like this. For effect. With regards to point totals. I’m going to. Lose it.
This one isn’t the worst example but there has to be a better way to explain point totals than frequent periods, written out division and shock emojis. Maybe not though.
Kane's legacy has been boosted by some clutch play and being on a great team. If not for team success (and his contribution to that success), he likely is viewed as being a Top 10 forward for his era (a 15 year period) than Top 5. While I agree he exceeded expectations, I don't think him being a Top 5 forward (arguably #3) after being a #1 pick is that much better than what would be expected of him.
That being said, there is space between him as a prospect (#1 winger/potential franchise forward) and Crosby/McDavid level. Bedard, IMO, is the clear #3 prospect in the last 30 years (since Lindros).
Canuck fans dreaming of a new "16" franchise player. As a Habs fan I can only hope this transpires.
Bedard wears #98.Canuck fans dreaming of a new "16" franchise player.
I'll be happy if we can worm our way into the3 spot and snag Michkov to go along with another looking to be fairly high number one with Floridas pick.Canuck fans dreaming of a new "16" franchise player.
Oops that's right he wore 16 at the WJC it would have been too good a story for the Canucks to have Trevor Linden introduce Bedard at the draft in my dream.Bedard wears #98.
McDavid's pace in his rookie season was 88 points per 82 games. Equalizing for the league-wide scoring increase (about 21% higher so far this season) it would be 106 points per 82 games. That was a low-scoring year. McDavid was on pace to finish 3rd in league scoring as a rookie.
That's the equivalent of an approximately 115-120 pt season these days.

"In his NBC Sports Chicago interview with Pat Boyle, Patrick Kane told a good story about Connor Bedard from last summer’s BioSteel camp. “There was one play in camp, he had a two-on-one with (Connor) McDavid and he looked off McDavid and took a shot,” Kane said, laughing. “We were all laughing on the bench.”
He added Bedard was very noticeable, even among this group of players. “He moves so well laterally. Everyone talks about his shot, his ability to shoot from different angles and off a different foot each time. But, man, the way he moves laterally is what gives him that space to be able to do that, so pretty impressive. Everyone's wondering how is he going to do at the next level, how's he going to be. From what I saw … he’s going to be special.”
I do think that is an underrated part of his game, not only his lateral mobility but his ability to maintain control and power in his core while shifting through traffic. From the today's 32 Thoughts:
Pretty high praise from Patty Kane himself.

Oilers just stunned by this ricochet shotAbout every 1st overall goes to a bad team
Yep, and those seasons are pretty much comparable since Michkov is almost a year older than Bedard.
That's another thing about this year's draft. Michkov and Fantilli are talked about as the closest competitors, but both are 2004. Bedard is a July 2005.
Lighting up the WHC is a fairly tough ask GS, it's a good mens tournament. I think he can be effective but not sure abut any lighting up, he's still 17 after all. That's right! Shaping up to be one hell of a 2nd. half of the season, a post WJC bump for young Connor. Hopefully he keeps it going until the end of the season and gets one more stint in a Team Canada sweater in May with the NHLers.. I suppose we could send him to the U18s for one more turn there, but that wouldn't be fair. I think he can legit light the men's tourney up.

It's a big jump in level of play from junior competition.
10 points for a 17 year old would indeed be lighting it up. I think he can be effective on the p.p at this level right now.Not WJC lighting it up, it's all relative., but 10 games. 10-15 pts is doable. and in my book, a for a 17 year old to do that - is lighting it up. Hopefully he's there in May. Gold medal game Sunday the first BBQ of the season. but considering the winter we are having, the first BBQ of the season may be this weekend. positively balmy.
I think the recent World Championship standard for a top prospect pre-draft was set by Patrik Laine, with 7 goals and 12 points in 10 games. Another is Kaapo Kakko with 6 goals and an assist in 10 as well.
Bedard is a better prospect than both though Laine was highly coveted due to his size and shot, which allowed him to put excellent #s for sure. Kakko was physically developed and had a good grind game.
Feel like Bedard could very likely end up in a worse spot offensively than those 2.For the sake of simplicity, a 100 point season would be close to on par with Crosby and McDavid's 18 year old seasons. I could see him not quite hitting the ground running as Crosby and McDavid did.
