Chest beating post of sorts so apologies in advance.
But goddamn I can't help but feel proud and spoiled as a Canadian hockey fan sometimes. While the world as a whole is catching up to us and our hockey dominance, and talent is coming from everywhere now (and that's a beautiful thing for the game). And superstars from all countries are making their mark.
But we keep getting blessed by the hockey gods with generational talents that are able to stand above the rest. I'm 36yrs old and the best hockey player on the planet has basically always been a generational Canadian icon.
And I think it's great that the next "one" is from western Canada this time - they were way overdue for it. We've got generational representation from every corner of the country now.
And despite how far apart we are in distance from each other geographically, our politics are at odds with each other at times, or even our first language isnt all the same one... But its our love shared love of hockey and the pride we all feel get from seeing the maple leaf
win on the world stage that binds us together as a nation more than anything.
