I would have thought someone like you who doesn’t watch hockey would be a fan of advanced stats to help get a better understanding of what’s really going on out there. Goals, assists and +/- is all you need to determine how someone is playing eh? Oh and face off %.

Yes, my error there. Say 5+ games and I think the list stays the same.

No advanced stat is prophetic in and of itself. But xG/60 is one where there is a strong correlation between a good score and a generally-accepted good player, and also has a strong history of highlighting players close to breaking out or currently overperforming. For Bedard to be so ridiculously far ahead of the field is undeniably a very good sign.

If you're curious, Michkov's U-18 is the Russian flag to the right of Lundell's Finnish flag. Interesting to see that their U-18's were so close, and so far ahead of everyone elses.

Heading into selection camp with some momentum. Even with the improved line mates I still find he thinks the game so far ahead of his teammates that they are surprised by done plays/passes he makes. I think he will shine with Canada if he makes it.

I believe that as well. It depends on what kind of team Canada wants. Even if Bedard makes the team he will be relegated to the 3rd or 4th line, kind of like when McDavid made the WJC team.

True. By shine I meant that his array of skill will be much more on display when his teammates can match his IQ. Nice to have the extra roster spots this year so at worst hopefully they take him as a 13/14th forward and see if he can’t work hos way up the lineup.

If you’re suggesting he’ll be a top 2 player for Canada at the WJCs, that’s a major long shot. Has there ever been a D-1 player who was top 2 on a Canadian WJC squad? Can’t think of one off the top of my head.

McDavid and Crosby played supporting roles as D-1s (if that means two years before his draft, not sure that it does).

It would be a surprise if he ends up being a Top 2 player. Historically young players are not put in that postition.

The go to guys will be people like Perfetti. It won't be a 17 and 16 year old.

Yeah..Hockey Canada are dumb sometimes.

That year. 03-04 .Crosby did 135 points in 62 games and was named the best junior player in Canada.

...at 16 years old...think about that..

...and the coach Mario Durocher...put him on the fourth line...when Sid was clearly the best player on the team...
