I just don't understand why is the NHL so bad with marketing? Why pump someone SO much before he even plays his first game?
It's your take on marketing that is bad.

It's marketing 101. Even the newest newb at the marketing firm would know you gotta milk Bedard's first steps in this league. You gotta milk every firsts with this projected prodigy. That's the story today.

Tomorrow, there are dozens of possible stories. But you only get one first NHL game.

C rating from me
(without an assist, 5 sog, it would have been D)

2/13 at face-offs (15 %)
was getting hit a lot
i did like his skating, was flying out there
took too many shot attempts, quality over quantity kiddo!, getting 5 sog
sounds nice, but none were quality shots, missed 1 scoring chance in the 1st
his 3rd period was his best, but even his 3rd period wasn't anything special
i did like his effort in his debut, some times he did too much, but it was his first game
play more simple and less is more

oh and what about his height?

Crosby is 5 foot 11 / 200 lbs, Bedard looked tiny next / facing him at the dot
Bedard is not not 5 foot 10 / 185 lbs, say what ever you want.
(i can see that with my eyes that he is not 5 foot 10)

ps, didnt pittsburgh player touch the puck front of the net,
it was also a rebound goal, so should his secondary assist count?
just made some observations thats all

I’m sorry but that is an absolutely terrible analysis. Almost impressively bad.

P.S. he was clearly at his best in the 2nd, not the 3rd.

He looked exactly like what a future NHL superstar would look like making their NHL debut at 18.

Looked a bit nervous and knocked around way too easily not to mention he was horrible on the dot. That being said you see what makes him a special player. I think 60-70 points this year is a fair prediction.

He’s been Chicago’s best outskater. Surprised actually at his defensive anticipation, has broken up several plays, something which he didn’t really do in Regina
That stood out for me and I think that aside from his elite shot he has some really good hockey IQ going on.

Sure he looked tentative and isn't going to win many board battles or face-offs but he sure seems to drive a lot of offense out there for some reason.

Thought he looked raw but promising. Some neat plays in the neutral zone. Forced too much and played too overconfident. Still had a strong impact in terms of the advanced stats etc.

Good lord...some of the posts, the last couple of pages are embarrassingly bad. This kid is still getting is skates underneath him and figuring it out. I thought he played well, but there were flashes of what he can be after he gets a feel for the game up here. Once he figures out how to create more quality scoring chances at this level, the points will start coming.

A reminder that you thought DeBrincat was going to score 60 goals in a season and thought he was a colossal disappointment when he didn't

This kid is so insanely good that he comes out in his NHL debut, gets knocked around a bit, looks a little out of sorts, isn’t in sync…..AND STILL he’s by far the best player out there for his team with over 20 mins of ice time, an assist, and a relentless attack that included some nifty little passes/set-ups and an absurd 11 shot attempts(2nd most by a player in their NHL debut since the 2009/10 season) with 5 SOG! As the game went on it was clear he was a threat every time on the ice, despite his sloppy and out of sync moments. Just wait till he starts figuring it out and putting it all together(which he will because he’s a generational prodigy).

Bedard looked pretty nervous , and I think mostly due to the hype ( I thought the little interview with Crosby and Bedard on media day was sappy and awkward)

That said you can see the raw talent and skill . I think he looked better tonight compared to some of his preseason games. He looked like he was simplifying his game a bit , not trying to do too much etc..

it’s only a matter of time before his efforts consistently effect the outcome of the game. Chicago sure lucked getting Bedard just after losing Kane.

I think he's going to be an elite player, I don't see the generational ala Crosby / Mcdavid, same thing I said when I saw him play in Juniors. I see him more in the top 5 - 10 player tier than generational. Which is f***ing great for Blackhawks fans, surefire top tier talent to build around.

lol marketing 101 for dogs

There's so many stories in the NHL, Bedard's is only one of them and to be honest it should be ranked like no5-10, its the NHL thats so bad, it does nothing with the other stories.

McDavid is legit the face of the league, he should be equal to LeBron, 150 pts season.. thats an historical achievement.

Ovechkin's road to 900, nada

There's so many more stories they can come up with

Yeah same, there's no generational talent in him, speed is avg,

Also he needs further physical development

His shot, is otherworldly, he's gonna win a few rockets for sure, but yeah I never saw McDavid or Crosby. I remember the first time I saw Crosby come play Philly (I'm a Flyers fan), I was so happy Brodeur finally retired, saw this guy and thought yeah this is another 15+ years of misery dude is gonna end up one of the greatest, and he did.

I thought he looked good, there's no doubt the skill is there - but he did look timid near the puck and was shying away from contact. I would've liked to see him compete more in puck battles.

One of the hallmarks of an offensive superstar is that they look like they have a quiet game and still come away with a point. Other players can have the game of their life and come away with zeros across the board.

Yeah I can agree with that but the highlight of that play really wasn't him, was the true definition of a secondary assist, even though it was a bit smooth. I'm not saying the guy isn't going to be a superstar, he absolutely without a doubt will be, but he's never going to be Crosby / McDavid or of that mold. I just do not see that, never did. He didn't deserve the excess hype pressure he received, he seems to be focused on hockey which is good, he's going to be among the game's elite, without question but this generational bullshit is stupid, same kind of stuff with Matthews. As a real hockey fan you just know immediately, everyone knew immediately when they saw Crosby and McDavid, it wasn't a matter of if, more of just when.
