Top 5-10 prospect pool before this draft. Lots of future draft capital and cap flexibility for years. It’s a fine situation. He wasn’t going to win the cup in year 1 anywhere.
Their NHLers are soooooo bad though. Like their top 3 guys who were full time NHLers last year, that are still on the team, are … Seth Jones, Athanasiou, and … f***, I don’t even know who #3 would be.

Yeah, solid prospect pool, but prospects are always hit or miss. A nice “big 3” prospects of Reichel, Nazar and Korchinski, but Reichel is the only really sure thing.

Overall, NHLers, prospects and picks combined, just a lot less total value there than other places he might have landed, like Anaheim, Columbus or Montreal. With Chicago it’ll be a much longer road to becoming a contender, if they get there at all.

He doesn't like the beach afaik, and Columbus is hockey purgatory lol. At least he's got a great city to play in that absolutely loves its hockey and hockey team. And an O6 franchise. And not only Reichel, Nazar, and Korchinski, there are always other prospects that pop up and surprise when everything "clicks". Then throw in 6 picks in the first two rounds this season, and there may be a couple other guys out of those that surprise and make the team. I don't think the situation is as dire as you're painting it to be, IMO. That's not even getting into the 40m in cap space they have to put some players around him.

I think with Bedard, this team can be back in the playoffs two seasons from now, if all goes well. I'd say they can definitely be a bubble team in his sophomore season.

Who cares. Was he supposed to get drafted by Boston or something? Usually, when a player is first overall, they go to a crap team FYI. And a couple of these teams with ‘better players’ finished worse than us. Maybe relax and enjoy the ride.

KD has a plan. He is not deviating or accelerating because of this.

Can this thread not be a "I hate Chicago because my team didn't win" thread (or whatever other reason you hate us).

Let the hawks fans rejoice

How can you support what happened with your team?

& this is supporting pure plain tanking at the highest level.

Well, I would have preferred him in Anaheim with their collection of young talent. Chicago is in for a longer rebuild, so at least he should be available for some Team Canada duty next May in Prague. And the year after that.

Bedard actually could play an easy Lindros card if he publicly disagrees with how Chicago handles it's scandal. I don't think anyone in this day and age would blink an eye. He could easily play that card if he wanted to. But I suspect he isn't that type of person. Chicago isn't a bad location in terms of a good market, original 6. Toews and Kane return to pass the torch, could you imagine.

Chicago is a franchise that did everything they could to tank, helped cover abuse at the cost of winning, and then tossed away all their assets to cleanse themselves of the damage.

Hockey gods loved that shit.

I fully agree that the scandal stuff is awful and didn't want them to win the pick, but good for them for tanking. it's what this shit league deserves, and mediocrity is death in the NHL.

They did exactly what they had to do and should have done in their situation: light the whole world on fire and dance on the ashes.

The amount of butthurt in this thread is predictable and delicious.

He would never pull a Lindros. Bedard aint no saint either. Back when he was 14 or something his West Van academy team was involved in a sexual assault/hazing incident. It obviously got swept under the rug but it made its way to the news

Otherwise I’d suggest you be careful just throwing out reckless accusations like that.

Im struggling to find it now, so you don’t have to believe me. I do recall something of that ilk happening and the team ended up folding. I believe they attributed to folding to “lack of academic success”
