C Connor Bedard (2023, 1st, CHI) Part 6

He won't put up as many points off the bat as he would with the Ducks or Jackets, but it's not terrible to have him join a franchise where the fans are still not expecting to do anything the next couple of years.

There's a lot less pressure, fan wise, with him going to Chicago. Hawks brass just needs to give him enough support that he can continue to develop properly.

It is without a doubt going to be the most challenging location for him to succeed in both the short and medium terms.
That is true… at least they have 40m cap space… so they can try and get o‘reilly or tarasenko… lol

Bedard‘s situation is really weird… he joins a team that has no players near his level. The management went into full blown tank mode in a way I’ve never seen it. Even younger players got trades. Okay the jury is out on Korvhinski and Reichel has some promise, but I am not sure anyone is even close to what the other generational talents had to work with at start of their careers.

When McDavid came to the Oilers they already had Drai, Nuge, Nurse and Hall in the system…

Crosby had Fleury, Malkin and not sure if Letang was drafted in the same season? what a talent.

That's what happens when you blow up and the league gifts you a generational prospect the same year. That's not how it went down with Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, LA, Chicago (their first time around), Edmonton, and Toronto.

Technically it is how it went down for Chicago.....

I meant to add "their first time around" lol

They had already been on year 4 of the tank when they landed Kane and already had drafted Toews, Hjalmarsson, Keith, Seabrook and other important supporting players.

I knew what you meant, just giving you shit.

Truth is, nobody knew that Keith, Hammer, or Seabrook would turn into the players they did; they certainly weren't big names in 2006 or 2007. It was unlikely then, just as it's unlikely now that guys like Korchinski, Del Mastro, and Rinzel turn into big time players. Might not happen again, but who the hell knows?

Obviously the old Hawks had drafted Toews 3rd and Kane 1st, while Bedard is currently by his lonesome for top 5 picks. Hopefully, for the Hawks sake (and certainly not the sake of other fanbases), they can get a high pick next year and find some guy that can at least help soften Bedard's workload.

Exactly… they have now to accelerate the rebuild because with a talent like him you cannot continue to tank…

Ignoring the Blackhawks bitterness(better believe I feel it) it will be interesting to see how he does his first couple of years. I have been very skeptical on the "potentially better than Mcdavid" discussions for a a couple reasons, anyway but on this team it's even harder to see how he suceeds in a similar timeframe(on an individual level) the coming years. Not only is that pro team absolute shite, but while they have some cool prospects, they are still only prospects, and only Reichel that I know of is is a highly certain good nhler coming years. Not really enough seem like something in the coming 5 years, but by then they should have the chance to field a competetetive team. Lots of space and no anchoring contracts except Seth Jones. We'll see. The questions will be regarding the physical game, center projection, defence, and potentially shot selection. But that shot and offensive vision is unlike anything I have ever seen from an NHL prospect ever as well, to be fair.

Really interesting to have a prospect of this caliber who's maingame has been around his scoring proficiency. Usually the "goal scoring prospects" and "great shooters" are more limited players than the more dominant prospects in their draft. Thinking of players like Holtz and Caufield.

Bedard will be a draw for sure. While I don't predict him being than Mcdavid has been and is, I see him being potentially as entertaining for sure.

I guess his chance of having that 100 point rookie season is significantly small with a team that could only get 204 goals in a season and traded away 2 of their leading scorers at the deadline who only put up 49 and 45 points in Domi and Kane. I don't really see any type of roster turnaround for Chicago unless they throw all their picks away to accelerate their rebuild.

Domi is coming back

I'm fine having a terrible season again, in fact I'm hoping for it ... Celebrini or Eiserman - welcome to Chicago.

If Bedard can manage a PPG on the Hawks next year that will be an incredible accomplishment.

$40m in cap space will take care of it.

I could see guys like Domi, Nyquist, Killorn, and Tatar heading to Chicago, heck they could sign all of them. Lukas Reichel is really good too.
