C Connor Bedard (2023, 1st, CHI) Part 6

Which lottery team would complement Bedard‘s skillset and potential to produce best?

Do you think he can get 50 goals in his rookie season?

I think the blue jackets with betw gaudreau and laine would be dynamite.

I defo see him getting 40plus goals next season regardless of the team… with the jackets he would crack 100points if he stays healthy…
Probably Columbus as an all-around team, but I think I'd like to see a Zegras/Bedard/Terry line the most.

I sure hope that if Anaheim drafts Bedard, they do not go with this line. 5 goals a game and 10 against when that line is on the ice is not going to be the move. You'll see more two way balance if he gets drafted there.

Maybe not year 1, but at some point it would be fun.

If the habs get Bedard and Dubois this summer,
Dubois - Suzuki - Bedard
Slafkovsky - Dach - Caufield

Would be a pretty sick top 6

Shouldn't be an issue, at least not from what we know currently.
Its not a problem the next 3 years since Bedard will be on his elc.
In 4 years, the habs have only 5 contracts signed (Suzuki, Gallagher, Anderson, Dach, and Matheson).
Both Gallagher and Anderson will have 1 year left on their contract. Anderson probably gets traded way before that point. Gally could be traded with an asset when he has 1 year left. Anderson + Gally gone opens up 12 M, which is probably what Bedard will get after his elc ends.

Ya, but add 8 mil each for Caufield and PLD, another 5-6 mil for Dach even if he doesnt take a huge leap before his contract is up, and if Slavkovsky is actually good then another 6-8 mil for him.

In 4 years this could realistically be (and I think these numbers are conservative in the case of Bedard and PLD):
Bedard - 12 mil
Caufield - 8 mil
PLD - 8 mil
Suzuki - 8 mil
Slav - 8 mil
Dach - 6 mil

Thats like 50 mil on your top 6 lol. ANd that's also assuming they can dump Gallagher and Anderson without a hitch.

It's a lot, but it's doable.

The cap this season is 82.5 M, and the leafs are using 46 M on their top 6 highest-paid forwards, and the Capitals are using 43 M.
In 4 years (26-27), the cap will be around 95 M.

If the cap becomes an issue, they could just try to trade Dubois. They could also bridge Slafkovsky, which will give him a much lesser cap hit.

For at least the next 3 years, it won't be an issue and the habs should be able to make the playoffs.

Size does not have the concer is once had anymore in a game that hardly has physical or aggressive play now
This is just inaccurate. If you have access to replays of NHL games, go back and watch Winnipeg vs Vegas game 1 and come back and tell me size and physical play aren't important anymore. It's not just the hitting. Board battles are still important, open ice physical engagements are still important. I'm not saying I think Bedard won't be able to handle it but physical strength and size isn't irrelevant.

i agree with some of what you say but not everything...there is not a whole lot of open ice physical play...and board fights are not as physical they once where...im not saying they are not irrelevant for strength and size...but players today can get away being 5'08 to 5'09 and not having tree trunk legs like guys like Martin St Louis use to have...and this is due to the league not being half as physical as it once was. That is fact, players off ice today are smaller than players 15 years ago.

That’s a damn shame.
Must want to be as ready as possible to get that 100 point season next year ;)
