The rumour going around among teams last night is that there was an insurance/ liability issue which meant that Bedard's family would have to cover their own costs and would have to do the work themselves. I believe HC was informed that they couldn't/ shouldn't cover the costs/ effort due to legalities.

Can someone give a more detailed info about this. Its very surprising for me to read something like this. Hockey Canada doesnt want or cant cover his insurance?

On TSN last night Dreger made it seem like he probably won't go but it was more of a Hockey Canada not wanting to over work him then a insurance issue.

But compared to the others he played just one serie

suzdalev is good too on jr level. Bedard had decent topline mates… the team just didn‘t have depth.
Unlike the others Bedard played on a mediocre team. And yet, against the squad that allowed the second fewest goals in the regular season he put up 16 points just at even strength. He scored or assisted on 80% of his team's goals that weren't into an empty net.

Bedard: 20 points, 38 shots on goal, +8
Suzdalev: 10 points, 11 shots on goal, +2

Howe will make it someday. He didn't have a great season but he's a legit future talent.

Edit: meant playoffs
Will be interesting to see how Suzdalev and Howe fair without Bedard next year (if Suz goes back).
I completely agree with you that Howe isn't overly reliant on Bedard (although it definitely propped up his totals). I just don't think he is the offensive prospect some think he might be and would be fairly surprised he if goes in the first round next year. I absolutely love the way he plays though and could definitely see him carving out a bottom 6/grinder role in the NHL one day.

Suzdalev has the higher ceiling in my mind but he was also more reliant on Bedard. Of the 36 goals he scored with Bedard in the lineup, Bedard assisted on 23 of them - mostly PP one-timers from the right dot.

Speaking of which, probably my favourite play from Bedard this season in Regina:

About 75% chance that he will go to another team... but if the Ducks pick him... the amount of between-the-legs and lacrosse goals scored by Anaheim will be so much that Torts sues the franchise for ruining the game

McTavish needs to accept an invite and then assert a little friendly peer pressure on his WJHC partner. I can live with a 3rd. line of McTavish Suzuki Bedard at the WHC. Wouldn't be my first choice...but I can live with it.

If he gets drafted by Anaheim, given the young players they got in the system, I doubt they miss the playoffs next year/or years after that, and this will be our last chance to see Bedard play an international game for a long time. No best on best for a while.

Still so weird to me that the Pats didn’t make major moves at the deadline. I think they had a chance to beat Saskatoon, but in the highly likely scenario of Winnipeg and Red Deer winning their first round matchups, that would just have meant a matchup vs. Winnipeg in round 2. It was clear they’d have no shot against the Ice.

Trading Bedard for an absolutely legendary haul would’ve made sense. Keeping Bedard, and mortgaging the future to try to improve the team enough to be a legit contender also would’ve made sense (although would’ve been more difficult). But having a player like Bedard, and just being like “basically guaranteed 1st or 2nd round exit, then lose him for nothing, sounds like a plan” … I just don’t get that.

As a WHL fan, sucks to see such an unreal performance go to waste.

Which lottery team would complement Bedard‘s skillset and potential to produce best?

Do you think he can get 50 goals in his rookie season?

I think the blue jackets with betw gaudreau and laine would be dynamite.

I defo see him getting 40plus goals next season regardless of the team… with the jackets he would crack 100points if he stays healthy…

Probably CBJ. Hopefully they win the lottery, the franchise and fans deserve something nice.
