Have to disagree here but you're entitled to your opinion.

I do think Bedard has the potential to be a better big game player though. Dude has got that it factor that Matthews never showed.
Matthews the prospect wasnt as hyped as bedard

He wasnt as dominant at the WJC and had a weak playoffs for zurich

Matthews potential at the draft was a ppg player with solid two way game (keep in mind this was when 100 pts was the max people thought the ross winner would get)

Bedard at 2.5ppg+ in the WHL, the best draft wjc performance ever, + a potentially dominant playoffs is ahead of highes/matthews/eichel/dahlin/laf tier prospects and should be right besides mcdavid and crosby for best propsect post 05

Bedard's numbers were better, but he also didn't have the size and ability around the net that Matthews had displayed. And it's not like Matthews didn't have excellent numbers in his draft year. Matthews was far and away the best player in a very good Swiss league during his draft year. He would have torn apart the WHL had he gone to Everett.

Also, Laf was never an Eichel/Matthews caliber prospect IMO.

There’s more to evaluating a prospect than size, numbers, and ability around the net. There are plenty of things Bedard does better than Matthews did as a prospect.

There's also more than just posting stats.

They both had strengths the other didn't. I've already outlined their differences in detail in the past, but I'm on mobile at my daughters' game right now.

Yeah when I mentioned numbers in my post I meant stats.

Anyway enjoy Little Whiskey’s game

4-3 Pats late in the second. 2 goals, 2 assists for Bedard as he picks up a point on every goal so far.

I think one of the best signs with Bedard across the WHL and WJC is that he seems to rise to the occasion in big games. That is an enormously valuable trait.

I'm gonna have to say this preemptively before people get freaked out. Saskatoon and Regina are going to play each other in the first round. Bedard will be driven off the puck on every play by one of the best defensive teams in the country and will likely not pile up a ton of points in the playoffs. No that won't hurt his draft stock, no it won't be a question mark on his game, no it won't be a bad sign for the next level. Any prospect except McDavid would struggle against the playoff series that Bedard is about to play.
I really hope for your sake that you were being sarcastic.

Good prediction. I believe you also previously said you would take Fantilli over Bedard. Any other Bedard-related wisdom while you’re on a roll?

At this rate he’s going to win the scoring title in the playoffs despite not getting out of the second round.

It's not November anymore, opinions grow and perspectives grow. If I haven't grown your opinion after a dozen player viewings of players, that would be an issue. I do stand behind my November opinion, doesn't mean it's the same as my April opinion.

The difference between now and November is that Bedard has developed more than Fantilli IMO, Bedard fixed some of the lumps in his game in a short time frame. The biggest change I've noticed in Bedard's game was on the breakout and in the neutral zone, he used to cheat behind the d on nearly every play (even at the WJC) and his team would end up icing the puck like a dozen times a game trying to reach him (though they still ice the puck tons, now it's just when he's not on the ice). Now he's learned to support the puck carrying player and uses the pass to him as an option to facilitate zone entries. He's not great at it yet but it's showing that he's getting better at reading teammates, something that he's still got a ways to go but is at least partially answered.
Your November opinion doesn’t mean anything at all, Bedard has been doing things that are proving you wrong, for almost every claim you make. Facts don’t care about your feelings bud.

Also he has 10 points in 2 playoff games, so much for “not producing in the playoffs” lol

My prediction Pat's Bow down next round but Bedard puts up 25 plus points. Top 5 in the NHL as soon as next season. Top 3 the season after then slowly ascends his way to the top when McGoat is done winning Art Rosses several years from now and Leon is done being runner up constantly.

Matthews takes up his new role as " I once was a 60 goal scorer"

It's the circle of life

1. Mcdavid wont end the goat he will be 3rd best all time though
2. Draisailt wont be coming 2nd ever again after this year (it will be Mcdavid for another few years)
3. Bedard breaks the record for rosses
4. Matthews isnt relevent here. He isnt a generational player like Bedard will be or Mcdavid is

McDavid 3 all time?
Gretzky
Orr
Lemieux
Howe
Lidstrom

I could go on, but McDavid isn’t (yet) in the top 10. Equipment, especially skates plays a huge role in what Connor can do. The ice is better too.
