C Clayton Keller - Boston University, NCAA (2016, 7th, ARI)

Questions in what sense?

In a sense Keller has more questions than Larkin and Connor because those two have NHL size and Keller looks like a little kid out there. Not every super skilled tiny guy will be the next Gaudreau. Keller is inherently risky because his size may limit how effective he can be, especially in the playoffs. At some point he'll be a good risk. I kind of doubt anybody takes a chance on him top 10 at his size.

The OP was saying the opposite. Keller has less question marks around him.

Keller or Jost?

Keller was the U18 MVP.

Who would I pick between Keller or Jost?

Tough Choice. Good Problem. I like them both a lot. ... I will go Keller hoping for the next great undersized player.

Lemme ask you this. How was Mitch Marner any better than Clayton Keller in his draft year?

Is this a Zen Koan? I was hoping you'd tell me! Keller looks good, but so small. He might just get destroyed in the NHL...not that Jost is a giant.

Really hoping his size scares everyone off and he somehow drops to the Isles. I realize that's highly unlikely though. Dude is a stud.

The team that lands him is going to be very, very happy.

If the leafs fall to the #4th pick post lottery is even be fine taking him top five.

I'll cut the Zen Koan short and say flip a coin. My choice was Keller.

Lots of small skilled players are succeeding and have succeeded.

I got one for you then, how was Clayton Keller any better than Jeremy Bracco in his draft year?

He is/was the driver of his line, whereas you could speculate that Bracco was more of a passanger, playing alongside a future #1 overall pick, assuming that I am correct that it was a Bracco/Matthews/Roslovic line. If I'm incorrect, well, whatever.

Fair enough, I do remember hearing and seeing ALOT of the same things about Bracco though, Keller reminds me more of Bracco than Marner, although I do agree he is a better prospect than Bracco for sure, but I don't know if he's Marner level like the posted I quoted suggested.

Keller is in that third group IMO. More dynamic the Jost IMO.

I'd say he's 10-12 overall talent. Not nearly as explosive offensively as M.M

It was a question not a statement.

I do think the difference between Keller & Bracco is the same if not closer than the difference between Keller & Marner.

Okay. I disagree with your opinion. Even if we assume Keller < Marner, which is not a given, the distance between Bracco and Keller is significant. Keller is a mid-first-round pick.

Read the first 10 pages, alot of people thought Bracco was going to be a first round pick aswell. And if Keller turns out to be a mid first rounder which I think he will be, even then Marner was a top 5 pick, so..

I dont necessarily disagree with the bolded, but I also think the distance between Marner & Keller is significant. And perhaps more significant.

Marner to me was always a special player and just had something about him that stood out as something you don't see every year in a high skilled prospect. And I think the things everyone is saying about Keller are similar to some of the things everyone said about Bracco, whereas Marner is just on another level to me.

But you really didn't answer my question, what is it about Keller that puts him head and shoulders over Bracco like a Marner is? Cause like I said I see alot of similarities here that I saw in that thread last year. I do like Keller though, more so than I did Bracco last year, im not saying I don't, im just curious about the comparison thats all.

How you just described Marner is how I view Keller. He's pure electricity out there, with his skating, his hands, his mind. Perhaps Marner possesses a touch higher offensive ceiling (both strike me as pretty damn high), but Keller is also a true center. His 2-way game is very mature and underrated, perhaps akin to a Giroux in playing style. It is this in combo with his offensive skill set that might make him special one day as a pro.

Montreal loves undersized forwards. They will take Keller

They do, but they seem to like them in the later rounds. Since Bergevin has been at the helm, their first round picks have been 6 foot 2, 6 foot 6, 6 foot 2 and 6 foot 2.
