C Brad Lambert - HIFK U20, Jr. A SM-liiga (2022 Draft)

The top of 2022 is looking fantastic already. Savoie, Lambert, and Wright are a nice trio. Obviously a lot can change as they’re still kids but that’s a good crop shaping up already.

I would say very small chance.
Lambert's individual skills and skating are enough good to play in men's SM liiga.
But his overall playing and physicality aren't yet good enough to get SM liiga games

I'm HIFK fan but i don't belong HIFK's inner circle.
So i don't know exactly what plans HIFK has made for Lambert regarding this season.

Lambert should get first let's say about 10 to 15 games in HIFK's Mestis affiliate team Jokipojat Joensuu.
And if he does well there then let him play in SM liiga too.

If we completely disregard age there are much less gifted players of similar stature or smaller playing in Liiga right now.
 
Lambert has been playing as a center this year. I think there is some adapting to do in that position. He likes to play with the puck and bring it into the offensive zone himself, which isn't always optimal. He could utilize the wingers better when playing C.

He wasn't scoring at some point which seemed to frustrate him a little bit, but here's a hat trick from todays game:

4 goals and 9 points in the last 4 games, looks like he is really starting to catch fire.

He is now also tied for first in scoring for his team, after having just 6 points in the first 11 games.

I can definitely see him getting chances in Liiga this season if he keeps this up.

There is something in this: we just tend to have that extra bit of bloodymindedness that shows also in our flamers and trolls :) Anyway, Lambert really impresses me, a great talent, but of course early days still.

Yh. U17 Hockey Challenge.

Steven Ellis compared Lambert to Nathan MacKinnon clone. Well, probably his ability to accelerate through crossovers reminds me a bit of MacKinnon and hes a right handed shot like MaC. And yes I know this is more like a stylistic comparison and yes many other prospect has looked like very similar to some NHLer, but I dunno about MacKinnon comparison. I wuld say, for what I've seen from Brad, he looks more like Matt Barzal for me. Maybe more straightforward version of Matt Barzal but more him than MaC.

Some has used McDavid stylistic comparison aswell, but he doesnt bust by opposition that frequently or make east-west skating wickedly than McDavid.

Comparisons are difficult anyway, but what folks things about this MaC comparison early on?

MacKinnon's a much better comparison. He doesn't really play like Barzal. Lambert goes for the net at high speed, just like MacKinnon. He also can make similar plays. It's a very good comparable.
 
Looks pretty good, but why is he playing winger? He also obviously has a full set of offensive skills, but he seems to like a little too much to skate around in a circle and then blast the puck from bad angles.

No idea, with his club team he plays center and with good success. Far better success than anyone else on the team, that's for sure.

Even though he has scored three points his game overall looked pretty lazy and selfish. He doesn’t play defence or share the puck often. Of course we’ve seen his stunning skating and puck handling but what I’ve seen Wright, Savoie and Lysell have all been much better overall.

With coaching like that, it's no wonder the age group's performing poorly.
 
He certainly has time to move up to number 1... Shane is ahead now but the draft is in 30 months.

Hopefully he has saved best for the last in WHC-U17 tournament. That is needed from him and everybody against USA, otherwise that tournament will be another big disappointment as was Hlinka Gretzky some sort of I wuld say.

He does carry the puck up the ice very well for his age, but I know hes capable of better in offensive zone aswell - I just know it and wish he will prove that he can be that "Nathan McKinnon clone" what Steven Ellis considered him being.

Btw, MacKinnon scored 4 points in 5 games at the same age, in the same competition. 1 goal.

MacKinnon also played with team Atlantic, which was comprised of a whole litany of players from four small Canadian provinces that either couldn't crack a major junior roster or that were bottom line major junior players. I wouldn't put much stock in these point totals exclusively. Most years this team was completely over matched (some exceptions) as it was drawing from such a small pool of players. Canada moved away from this model to the three team model you see now for these reasons.

MacKinnon had 5 goals and 8 points in 5 games underager playing the year prior with the 94s as well.

IIRC he was playing through a shoulder injury his actual eligible year
