I dont see why we need to put a "floor" or "ceiling" on a player who hasnt even played a game in the NHL. I think saying player X or player Y is a comparable is fine, but did anyone think Mike Richards would be as good as he is when he was drafted? What about Getzlaf? Perry? Giroux? Those guys are NHL stars and people on these same boards were likely claiming things along the lines of, "45pt player in his prime. Solid bottom 6er." It is a pointless game to play.

Horvat's a product of Domi. Not a true 3rd liner like Gaunce, but not good enough to be a true top 6'er like Kesler. No place for him in the NHL or on the Nucks. Bust. Waste of a draft pick. Thanks Gillis.

You forgot to the part about the Canucks regretting not taking Nichushkin :sarcasm:

OMG I don't even.....have you watched him play by chance? Or Londin for that matter? Domi was garbage all year until he wasn't named to team Canada, and London fans can back these comments up....the last 6 games he has been scoring more, but before that Horvat had been outscoring him by a wide margin...even with like a 3ppg average in those 6 games Domi had one less point in the same games played, amd now has one more in 1 more game played than Bo...but Bo plays defense which Domi couldn't do to save his life...do research, and watch Knights games before posting ludicrous comments like "Bo is a product of Domi". It's just not true

Nichuskin is a fantastic player.

Gillis had the same fear we all do. He bolts to Russia.

Would have gone top five guaranteed if he was a product of the OHL

He was sarcastic. He wrote "made you look" in white text under it

would've been a perfect fit for the Canucks. Big strong winger with great scoring ability. something we've needed forever, and still need.

60pts playing like Mike Richards is very optimistic imo. Not saying he won't get there, but you should be ecstatic if he does. That's a first line center or an awesome 2nd line center.

Before Domi went on his offensive tear, he was a below a point per game guy. It was when Horvat left for the world Juniors is when Domi started tearing up the stats sheet. Please do some research before talking next time.

Before Horvat left for Sweden he had 44 points, Domi only had 30, so in other words it was actually Bo Horvat carrying the offence for the London Knights. Not Max Domi

but i'm ok with him being a 60 point guy who will contend for the Selke for years.

are you ok with that? IF he ever reaches that level it's a helluva pick.. not something you settle with.

But if the WJC says anything about his game he doesnt look like he could ever become such a player.

If the WJC says anything, most of team Canada will never play in the NHL and team Finland will produce the next dozen Selke winners. It has never been too predictive of NHL success.

Horvat started most of his shifts in the defensive zone, was Canada's best faceoff man and was an elite PK'er ask Sutterhis opinion on him. Also, using the WJC as a basline of how a player will turn out is flawed. If it were true Schroeder would be the best American player of all time.

Funny that the poster took such issue with the Horvat-Richards comparison and used the WJC's to 'disprove' the comparison.

2004 WJC leaders

Nigel Dawes ... 11
Anthony Stewart ... 11
Jeff Carter ... 7
Ryan Getzlaf ... 6
Brent Burns ... 6
Mike Richards ... 5

Finishes 6th on the team, behind current NHL superstars Nigel Dawes and Anthony (not Chris) Stewart.

2014 WJC leaders

Mantha ... 11
Drouin ...9
Lazar ... 7
Pouiliot ... 5
Reinhart ... 5
McDavid ... 4
Horvat ... 3

Finishes 7th, 1 spot lower than Richards. Based on WJC precedents I'd be more worried about Mantha and Drouin turning out than Horvat ;)

Your avatar sums up your post... Happens to all of us.

I'm to lazy to scroll up but what are Horvat's options next year? Is he eligible for AHL? I know the NHL is an option based on training camp, just wondering what fans think...?

Will he make the Canucks team next season or does he need another year in London?

I'd like to see him have another year in London and one year in the AHL before the NHL, let him develop shouldn't be rushed. But I think he could and likely will play in the NHL next season.

Horvat isn't eligible for the AHL next season, so it's NHL, or London for Bo

And my avatar is pure awesomeness haha

For the entire 10 games of U20 and pre-U20 the only goals he was on against were a 4-on-4 and a SH. When given prime defensive role ( 5-on-5 with a 16+17 yo and on the PK) he wasn't on for a 5-on-5 or PK goal against. Still would have been nice to see more points but at least he did the role Sutter wanted from him.
