I've heard Peter Forsberg without the bite.. and I see it too.

Who does he compare to? In terms of playing style and potential.
Toews with a higher offensive ceiling. Good to great at everything, hard worker and strong along the boards. Some have compared his offensive skill set to Tavares with better skating, most notably Benning. He works with the same coach Tavares does in the off-season. He does a lot of things similar to Tavares, he has amazing awareness and ability to know where to be, with great hands in close and an elite shot, not sure if he has Tavares vision, but he balances it out by being stronger in other areas.

I don't see Forsberg, Matthews best offensive trait is probably his wrist-shot and Forsberg was primarily a playmaker.

I see a Monahan with much better skating and vision. Super quiet, lethal in close. Mainly the quietness earns this comp for me. Both players are aggressively un-flashy, at least when I watch.

It's really hard. Such a unique player. Stylistically I would agree with Peter Forsberg.

I like that comparison. I also like Kopitar because of his defensive play.

He's also got a unique skillset it's hard to find a 1 to 1 comparison.

Toews/Sakic/Forsberg hybrid. He's got attributes similar to these players IMO. It's very hard to compare him to anyone but for fun...

Toews' quiet on-ice dominance and defensive play, similar style of play
Sakic's shot and offensive ability
Forsberg's style in general. The way he protects the puck, enters the zone, his vision and scoring ability

His skating is just amazing. If you look at him for 5 seconds you automatically notice he has that gift. That same gift mcdavid has or any of the other top centers. Really can't wait to see how see looks in 5 years and what he has accomplished.

Eric Staal in his prime was a similar type of player IMO, size, quick feet, great hands and an excellent scorer combined with a solid two-way game. This is a guy who before losing some speed due to a knee injury was an explosive neutral zone player.

Matthews similarly has all the tools you'd want in a top prospect, and if he can be a PPG player in his prime and a possession machine then that's a huge win.

Aggressively un-flashy is an okay way to put it but at the same time makes total sense and I agree.
