There is no current NHLer to whom Matthews compares well enough for me to say without giving you a false impression of his game. He's just one of those players you gotta watch to understand. The way he flows with the game is quite sublime. Unlike someone like McDavid or Eichel, who dominate the game, Matthews plays with the game. It's weird to try to explain.

Regardless, I'm excited for everyone to see him at the WJC. I hope he had a good showing so I don't look bad.

His straight line speed looks somewhat lacking, but his agility with that puck handling is absolutely flawless. Also seems like a tank when he reaches top end speeds with that frame. Personally speaking I see a lot of Jonathan Toews in his game as Ferraro mentioned, but with Lindros' ability to drive to the net. Now I am not saying he will be as good as those two, just mentioning playing styles.

I see a lot of Jamie Benn, Ryan Getzlaf, and Bobby Ryan in his game, though he seems a bit quicker than them. Size, power, and shot with surprising elusiveness and wicked quick hands.

Wow, he looks like a great player for sure. Nice hands in that video.

Ah, sorry about that. There I go making assumptions online.

No worries, in retrospect it was a weird comment made by me in the first place. I'm just pretty overly excited about Matthews since he's the first potential #1 overall that I've picked out of the bunch before he became the consensus guy. Matthews was on the outside of the top-10 looking in when I picked up the hype train. I can't help but be a little proud when he does well.

The NHL network interviewed Auston, about the WJ's and such.

Living in Arizona, I really hope the Coyotes find a way to land this kid, it's pretty remarkable to find a hockey player who grew up here and has a chance to not only make the big leagues, but also be a top 5, top 3 pick in the 2016 draft. He could definitely turn the Coyotes around.

ASU is also becoming a division 1 hockey team, so there's also that as well.

I'd love him on the Jets (as I'm assuming every fan would want him on their team), but yeah, it would seem like it would be amazing for him to end up in Arizona.

Those are some of the nicest big guy moves I've seen from a player that young. Wow very exciting hockey player. Look forward to watching him.

Not to defend Gary Bettman, but this was the idea behind the whole sunbelt expansion.

In 1990 if you'd told somebody that weed would be legal in four states, we'd restore relations with Cuba, college hockey would be in Arizona and possibly the number 1 pick in the draft would be from Arizona..... which would be the least believable!?

College hockey was around in the 1990's in AZ

How did he look against NCAA competition this year? I know with the USA WJC team he had good linemates to work with but would be very positive if he looked like a force with the u18 NTDP team.

He's had some of his best games this year against NCAA opponents including 4 goals and 2 assists in the 2 games against Minnesota and BU.
