Matthews looks at home amongst the best U23 kids in the entire world. Like, it's not even an insane statement to make that he's been one of the best forwards tonight for team North America.

Matthews vs Laine isn't even close if you're comparing all around game. Laine will be an offensive beast but Matthews is on another level than him at the moment.

No debate why he was #1. He is showing it out there.

Just like the professionals said, he was the best player in the draft and it wasn't really close.

Let's not bring Laine stuff in here. Let's discuss how Matthews has looked through the first 2 periods. Seems more often then not his line has created a scoring chance or 2 every shift.

Agreed. Laine is more flashy but his all around game doesnt come close to Matthews'.

Focusing on Matthews....and he's looked good :).

I appreciate that he's not trying to complicate things either. When he has a chance, he'll take his shot. Move the puck when it's the right move and take a shot when it's available.

He's looked really nice on that line. Not out of place.

If by more flashy you mean shoots the puck harder?

Is it really a harder shot though? I mean, I don't think Matthews can one-time it like Laine but just straight up release, is it for sure Laine can shoot it harder?

Wrister and snapper are close, but yeah the one timer is in Laine's favour by far.

Yeah, but he only gets that one timer off about 2 or 3 times a game if he's lucky. Tonight, only once I think. Not something he can rely on at all.

Sure you could argue but there's another 8 fanbases that would argue as well. Almost all the forwards have looked really good. He has looked good for a 19 yr old for sure. That line looks so big out there and yet they all have good hands

Matthews wins like 90% of the puck battles he's involved in. He really amazes me every time he's on the ice. I wish he was getting more minutes.

I only wish he was meaner. It would be incredible if he was meaner.

The top 9 has been very good for team NA.

I like that his line has created a chance or 2 each shift, plus there is some homerism at work here on my part, no doubt.

Uses his size to create space and make plays like Thornton, Sundin, or Schiefele but not to run over guys. That is okay.

Matthews is going to be a top 5 player in the league a lot sooner than people think

He looked amazing on a bad team at the WHC and he looks amazing on a great team at the WCH. Absolutely unreal that he's this good without setting foot in the NHL yet.

Does nothing but impress. Youngest guy on a young team, but has earned his place on that top line.

It's exciting. He's already this good and will only get better as he grows in the NHL. But for now will just look forward to how he does for the rest of this tournament.
