I agree- though I'll say that all people should let it go. Matthews v. Laine was a nauseating discussion while it lasted, but at least it was summer. Hockey is back now. I'm looking forward to watching Matthews game in and game out, and I'm also looking forward to watching Laine the player (actually, I'll be watching him live vs. Russia).

Neither team has any regrets, so it's time to just sit back and enjoy the ride. Draft comparisons are over, as far as I'm concerned.

Did anyone catch the Belfry quote regarding Matthews. I read on the boards that he was the best of the bunch of players he worked with on ESPN, but I just wanna be sure.

I didn't catch it but read the same thing on the Leafs board. Would be nice to see the clip talking about it.

Apologies for the new writer on the Jets beat. He knows little, likes to be controversial, and carries a bit of a chip on his shoulder.

Most Winnipeg fans know that the Leafs got the better player. They should have; they won the lottery, after all. Matthews has been fantastic since being drafted. As I've noted before, I like him better than Eichel.

Jets fans are naturally very pleased with Laine. They weren't expecting a tanked season or to have a shot at an elite player. The fact that they got a big Finnish sniper with lots of personality is a huge bonus. Just what the team needed, and great for the market.
 
If anything the Editors should be the one shamed as they write the Headline for articles. Anyone that watched the game knows this was not the case,

Wiecek is a hack, to put it politely - even most Jets fans pay no attention to his articles.

Matthews looked good last night - that line was very dangerous.
 
I was a skeptic of him at 1st but after watching these NA exhibition and now tourney games , he is going to be great in the NHL.

No point getting into it, the substance of the post was a compliment to Matthews. Great player, I'm a fan of him :).
 
"Desperate For A Center" ..... Of Matthews calibre? Yeah. As are 29 other teams. Even the Oilers would be jumping for joy if they got Matthews. (Which would be unfair lmao)

Matthews is literally going to bring the Leafs back to relevance and likely constant playoff appearances once again. Like McDavid is going to do for EDM, Eichel will do for BUF, or way back, what Crosby did for PIT, Toews did for CHI.


EDM was desperate for McDavid. That's not a bad thing. Acting like it is, is idiotic.


Desperation is a good thing, as long as you are desparate for the right things. Brian Burke was desperate to fix the Leafs for his ego, and ruined them because of it.

Shanahan is desperate to fix the Leafs because he loved them as a kid, and thinks it's a shame how far the once great franchise has fallen. And he's doing a great job because of it.

That's a "writer" who is just looking for attention, and to get hits, and keep a story that was never really a story, alive, because he isn't a good enough writer to get attention otherwise.

The writer of this article sounds disgruntled he hasn't been picked up by a major media outlet out of Toronto. Career stalled at the Winnipeg Free Press.

Auston 3:16 is kicking some serious ass, thought he wouldn't make as much noise as he is making in this tourney, and I love it, can't wait to see him suit up in the blue and white soon enough!
 
Tonight is a new challenge. Want to see how the young guns, in particular the Mcdavid, Scheifele, and Matthews line does tonight. Will be fun.
 
This writer is obviously writing for hits on his story, poking the bear that is the rabid leaf-fan and newfound happiness in having a franchise changing talent for once.

I won't bite, I won't give this hack the time. Reading some of these quotes from that garbage story is bad enough
