C Adam Fantilli - (2023, 3rd, CBJ) Part 2

I simply disagree with you. Anyone who watched that BU run knew Eichel was the only threat on that team. The team was actually fairly bad, they were one of the worst teams in the Hockey East one year prior with pretty much the exact same team.

Eichel had it tougher and I believe scoring rates were really low in HE that season, but Fantilli deserves credit for outshining everyone on a deeper team. That BU team was nothing special. O’Connor stood on his head to get them to the Frozen Four. Think the Terriers in Eichel’s first year had the biggest turnaround in D1 history. Or at least one of them.

I thought he played a strong game. Smart decisions with the puck, didn't get himself in trouble trying to be the hero, constant pressure on forecheck and back check, he could do with linemates he has better chemistry with but for his first game against professional adults, that was an impressive showing. And man is he fast.
Plus he immediately started to throw the body. There were 2 big hits from him pretty early in his first shifts - they weren't bone crushing but they were definitely more than just a casual "I pin you against the wall" hits. He has quite the motor.
He didn't look THAT big. Because of his speed I don't think he will ever be built like Getzlaf, for example, but I'm pretty sure he will fill out and definitely he will add more strength. He is just really hard to play against – that's the quality that Verbeek is after. He's said it from day 1 in Anaheim, so this is a perfect match unless Carlsson suddenly wins tournament MVP and scores a hat trick in the Gold medal game.

Tryna get away, man
The idea that you can’t get bigger or stronger because you’re bigger and stronger than your peers already is hilarious

There it is folks, grown man Fantilli at peak condition in just 18 years of existence.

Is it a foregone conclusion Fantilli goes to the NHL this year or might he go back to UM? Has there been any news on this?
I know I read somewhere that he said in an interview that he's undecided right now. Can't be bothered to try to go back track and find it. But no not a foregone conclusion.

There is no doubt to me that he’s going pro and I definitely think everybody in his life (agent, GM, family) will tell him he should do the same.

He has an NHL frame, skating, and the man just put up 65 points in 36 games (30 goals). There is next to a zero percent chance he goes back to school.

I agree with both what he should do and what he will do - just hadn't seen anything reporting it.

Obviously I am looking for him to succeed, but in my eyes he’s been the most consistently dangerous and involved player not named Quinn. I hope he keeps getting increased ice time going forward - he must have been around ~12 minutes the first game, and not much beyond ~15 minutes today, as it seems in my mind.
I thought the same, except I think Toffoli also has been sneaky good. But Fantilli really looks like among the very top players on that team but... without ice time and with really poor linemates. Seems that the coach gave opportunity to the vets first but Fantilli might be climbing his way up in the roster ladder.

Just so versatile, just as advertised. He's throwing his body around more than I thought tho. Might be because his linemates were losing the puck all the time, lol

He is leaving the possibility open. To me it feels he's just signaling he will do what the team drafting him is asking from him. I'd be surprised to see him back in Mitchigan.

Like I said I think he turns pro. Could he benefit from another year of NCAA play? Sure, I suppose it wouldn't hurt him but he's pretty darn ready right now - so why wait?

Before the draft lottery when there was still a chance for the Hawks to draft him - I had mixed emotions about him returning because with Nazar missing (essentially) his freshman season it would be nice to have Fantilli being the #1C so Nazar could take a more secondary role and it would be nice for them to play together if both were Hawks prospects - but at the same time if Fantilli leaves that opens up more possibilities for Nazar to take.

From April 12th

Adam Fantilli, a projected top-three pick in the 2023 Upper Deck NHL Draft, hasn't decided whether he will return for his sophomore season at the University of Michigan in 2023-24.
"Everything is completely up in the air right now," Fantilli told NHL.com on Wednesday. "I don't know what team is picking where and I don't know where I'm going to get picked, so it's completely up in the air."
The NHL Draft Lottery to determine the first 16 picks in the draft will be May 8 at NHL Network studios in Secaucus, New Jersey. The draft will be held June 28-29 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
Fantilli, winner of the Hobey Baker Award as the top men's player in NCAA Division I ice hockey this season, said he's taking some time off with friends in the coming weeks and will discuss the matter with his family and agent when he's ready to do so.
"I know there are still areas of my game I have to polish, and living on a college campus for another year helps you grow as a person, helps you grow as a man, and helps you mature," Fantilli said. "There's absolutely positives to both sides of it, but I haven't made a decision."

I haven’t seen anything since, other than the article about him not wanting to be up at 2AM to see the draft lottery.

I love this idea now that players with size have physically peaked and won't get any better.

He didn't dominate pimply faced teens, he was arguably the best college hockey player in the country before he was ever drafted playing against other physically mature competition

Comparison-wise, he reminds me of Point in a bigger body. I actually have not seen THAT much of Point, but just a guy pushing the pace constantly, smart, making smart plays, etc. He certainly pays attention defensively, but comparing him to Bergy seems a bit too early :D

I'd put it at 80/20 right now. 80% he's playing pro hockey next season (either NHL or AHL) and 20% he returns to Michigan. Like others have mentioned, I'd be surprised if he's with Michigan next season.
